Cheick Kongo (left) will take on fellow heavyweight bomb-dropper Matt Mitrione at UFC 137 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Oct. 29.

Cheick Kongo and Matt Mitrione, two heavyweights who both scored impressive knockouts in their last fight, will now face each other at UFC 137 on Oct. 29 in Las Vegas. UFC President Dana White confirmed the match-up on Thursday.

Kongo (16-6-2) surprised everyone with one of the biggest come-from-behind performances in MMA history when he scored a first round knockout victory over Pat Barry in the UFC on Versus 4 main event in June.

Fighting on that same card, Mitrione (5-0) scored a second round knockout win over Christian Morecraft. Mitrione remains undefeated in his UFC career with five straight wins, four by (T)KO.

UFC 137 will be headlined with a 170-pound championship bout between welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre defending his title against former Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz, who vacated his belt to take the fight.

  1. Tehy probably could have let this build up a little bit more, but good fight. I think Mitrione stops him.
