M-1 Challenge 25 LIVE results and play-by-play

M-1 Challenge 25: Zavurov vs. Enomoto” takes place today at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, and features two title fights. M-1 welterweight champ Shamil Zavurov will defend his crown against late replacement Yasubey Enomoto, and Ultimate Fighter veteran Vinny Magalhaes will take on Viktor Nemkov for the M-1 light heavyweight title.

M-1 Challenge 25 play-by-play:

265 lbs. Maxim Grishin vs. Vladimir Kuchenko

Round 1 – Kuchenko needs a win badly. Leg kick from Grishin. Front kick misses. Leg kick. Leg kick. Front kick from Grishin. Body kick. Kuckenko feeling out with a jab. Leg kick from Grishin. Head kick from Grishin connects and rocks Kuchenko’s head. Clinch, knees from both and Grishin backs out before Kuchenko can connect. Body kick from Grishin. Grishin with a couple jabs while he slips Kuchenko’s punches. Kuchenko can’t find his range. Leg kick from Grishin, Kuchenko catches it and puts Grishin on his back. Now inside Grishin’s guard, Kuchenko trying to work some ground and pound. Grishin tries to set up an armbar but Kuchenko pulls out. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Grishin.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Grishin. Nice jab from Grishin. Leg kick and Kuchenko counters with a big punch. Leg kick from Grishin and Kuchenko catches it and puts Grishin on his back just like he did in round one exactly. It will be interesting to see how the judges scored round one. Kuchenko landed very few strikes and did no damage but he got the takedown and laid on top for some time. — They go under the ropes and the ref stands them up. Body kick from Grishin. Kuchenko reminds me of Johnathan Ivey, the way he looks. Kuchenko misses with a couple punches, unable to find that range again. Misses again with a big right hook. Right hand from Grishin, and a jab. Right hand from Grishin. Jab from both. Leg kick from Grishin and Kuchenko catches it and lands a counter punch. The commentators believe Kuchenko is winning. I don’t see that. At the most I see it tied. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Kuchenko, although neither fighter landed much.

Round 3 – Left hand from Kuchenko. Leg kick counter from Grishin. A few jabs from Kuchenko, misses with a big hook. One, two from Kuchenko misses. Jab from Grishin scores. Leg kick from Grishin. Body kick from Grishin. Left stiff jab from Grishin, scores with a right, another punch and a high kick. A leg kick drops Kuchenko and Grishin finishes him off. Kuchenko’s leg is jacked; has a huge welt on the back.

170 Title Shamil Zavurov vs. Yasubey Enomoto

Round 1 – Enomoto took this fight on about two week’s notice.  Zavurov takes a big body kick then takes him down. Enomoto pulls rubber guard. Zavurov not able to do anything so far after a minute or so, he pulls out of the guard with a hammerfist, stands up and dives back into guard, moves to half guard. Tries to punch but Enomoto kicks him off, tries to get up but Zavurov pushes him back on his back. Enomoto very comfortable off his back. Enomoto gets to his feet, Zavurov swings, misses. High kick from Enomoto and Zavurov puts him back down. Ref moves them from under the ropes. Zavurov working with some ground and pound from half guard. Enomoto with rubber guard, landing several punches to the head. Because Zavurov got the take downs and maintained top control he will likely get the round 10-9.

Round 2 –  Zavurov with a nice right. Enomoto with a knee, then they clinch. Zavurov drops levels and gets a single leg. Enomoto sets up a kimura, locks on full guard and twists the arm behind Zavurov’s back. Zavurov escapes it to the cheers of the crowd. Enomoto is looking very good, especially on such late notice. He’s still on his back though, pulls rubber guard. Pushes Zavurov off, Zavurov trips trying to rush back in and Enomoto catches him in a guillotine type position. Zavurov picks him up for the slam and lands back inside full guard. Enomoto pulls Zavurov close with rubber guard, no space to move or breath for Zavurov. The crowd chants and cheers for their countryman Zavurov. Enomoto pushes Zavurov off and the ref lets Enomoto up. Forty seconds left in the round and the ref halts the action to wipe off some blood. Leg kick Enomoto, then a one arm handstand kick, he’s chasing Zavurov, body kick. Zavurov gets a takedown before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Enomoto  — Once again, I could see the judges give Zavurov that round, but he literally landed very very few strikes compared to Enomoto’s strikes and kimura attempt.

Round 3 – Zavurov checks a couple leg kicks. Another one. Head kick from Enomoto. Body kick. More kicks from Enomoto, lands a leg kick. Left hook from Zavurov. He grabs a single and tries to take Enomoto down, Enomoto takes his back but slips off. Zavurov on top in half guard. Rubber guard from Enomoto, now full guard and Zavurov starts with some ground and pound but Enomoto pulls back up the rubber guard stopping Zavurov’s punches. Enomoto landing several punches to the face from off his back, pulls rubber guard once more. Zavurov lands several short body shots. Enomoto looks for a kimura but does not have control of Zavurov’s body and he slips out. Enomoto gets to his feet as they clinch up. Ref separates them. Leg kick and a couple body shots from Enomoto as he chases after Zavurov. Zavurov dives for a single leg and eats several body shots from Enomoto.Another hard round to score. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Enomoto.

Round 4 – Front kick from Enomoto, big looping right from Zavurov misses. Enomoto hunting, leg kick checked by Zavurov. Another leg kick but Zavurov puts him on his back. Zavurov looking more energetic this round. Enomoto pulls rubber guard. Ref moves them from under the rope. Body shots from Zavurov. He sounds like a bear when he hits, making a grunting noise with each strike. Enomoto pushes Zavurov off and stands up. Body kick from Enomoto. Left hand from Zavurov, then a right and a takedown. Enomoto concedes the takedown, has full guard. Zavurov doing little punishment, mostly little body shots. Zavurov gets a little busier with the shots as the crowd cheers loudly. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Zavurov.

Round 5 – Enomot with the first punch. Leg kick. Zavurov counters with a couple punches, he swings big. Catches Enomoto’s kick and puts him on his back. Enomoto is much taller than Zavurov. Zavurov on top and Enomoto pushes him off and gets to his feet. They exchange punches, looking tired. Zavurov shoots, Enomoto sprawls but Zavurov turns the corner and puts him down. North south position from Zavurov, lands a few punches behind his leg to the face off Enomoto – interesting position. Zavorov on top in half guard, now full guard. Two minutes left in the fight. Zavurov punishing the body. Lands a few shots to the head, staying just busy enough. Ref stands them up with one minute to go and Zavurov can barely get up. Zavurov shoots and Enomoto locks on a guillotine as they go through the rope. The ref wants to stand them but Enomoto says no, he wants the guillotine. The ref moves them to the center but won’t give Enomoto his guillotine back. After arguing, the ref starts them standing. Zavurov shoots, Enomoto tries for the guillotine again but Zavurov slips out and starts punishing with round and pound. Enomoto throws up his legs for a submission attempt and the bell sounds. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Zavurov and the fight 48-47 for Zavurov.

205 Title Vinny Magalhaes vs. Viktor Nemkov

Round 1 – Guys are about the same height. Body shot from Vinny, right hand. Nemkov lands a couple shots and Vinny gets his hands on him in a body lock. Nemkov holds the ropes and prevents a takedown. Vinny tries to force him down, gets reversed and Nemkov lands on top inside full guard. Vinny pulls rubber guard. Stays patient, delivers a couple punches to get things going. Vinny transitions to an omoplata, Vinny twists his arm behind his back with the omoplata. Vinny pulls out, stands up and kicks Vinny in the groin while Vinny is still on his back. Time is called. Nemkov with a jab and body shot, Vinny shoots and Nemkov sprawls ending up inside Vinny’s full guard. Vinny pulls rubber guard. Looks for a kimura, lets it go and moves back to rubber guard. Nemkov pulls out, lands a punch to the body, stands up. Vinny stands. Right hand from Nemkov scores. He knocks Vinny down with a leg kick and Vinny grabs him and gets the takedown, inside Nemkov’s guard. A hard round to score. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Vinny, but it could go either way.

Round 2 – Jabs from Nemkov. Leg kick from Vinny, right hand and shoots. Stuffed. Punch and body kick from Vinny. Nemkov lands a solid punch and Vinny shoots, Nemkov sprawls and ends up on top of Vinny inside his guard. Nemkov with some punches and Vinny goes for a kimura, he lets it go. Vinny is bleeding a little. He sweeps Nemkov and ends up on top in full mount. Vinny starts landing some punches, goes knee to belly and Nemkov gives up his back. Nemkov escapes and ends up in Vinny’s guard landing punches. Vinny grabs wrist control. Two minutes left in the round. Ref calls time to wipe the very little blood off Vinny’s face. They’ve been doing this all night, like they don’t want any bit of blood seen on Russian television. Vinny shoots, stuffed, layson his back waiting for Nemkov. Vinny seems tired at this point. He stands, Nemkov swings and Vinny shoots, gets the takedown. Vinny has full mount, tries an armbar and Nemkov escapes. Vinny couldn’t even pull the arm straight, he looks exhausted. Nemkov stands, Vinny stands with a bloody face and the exchange shots until the bell sounds. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Vinny.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Nemkov knocks Vinny down. He gets up. Right hand from Nemkov, body kick, right hand, another one and he’s getting the best of Vinny here. Nemkov lands another punch and Vinny goes down but shoots and gets Nemkov down, mounts him. Vinny looking for a neck crank and he gets it. Nemkov taps out. Vinny worked for that one. Great stuff. Nemkov is no slouch. Vinny Magalhaes is the new M-1 light heavyweight champion.

185 lbs. Andrei Semenov vs. Luigi Fioravanti

Round 1 – Luigi with a leg kick. Semenov stalking, right hand. Luigi checks a leg kick, they exchange rights. Leg kick from Luigi. Left jab from Semenov, then a one two. Luigi checks a kick. Throws a looping left hook that just misses. Semenov connects with a good shot, they clinch, and then square up again. Right hand from Luigi counters a leg kick. Leg kick from Luigi. Then a nice one two. Leg kick from Luigi, body kick from Semenov. Semenov with a leg kick, it’s blocked, but then a one two from Semenov, Luigi shoots, clinched, and the ref separates them. One, two from Luigi just misses. One two from Semenov. Luigi gets the takedown but Semenov is right up, clinched. Ten seconds to go.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. Semenov swings, Luigi shoots, stuffed. Clinched in the corner. Ref warns Semenov for landing an elbow. Ref separates them. High kick from Luigi, then a right hand. Semenov counters with a one two. Leg kick from Luigi, shoots, Semenov’s butt touches the ground but he is right up, right hand backs Luigi into the corner. He fires back with a punch and leg kick. Luigi misses with a big overhand left. Leg kick. One two from Semenov scores. Knee to the body from Semenov. Nice overhand right from Luigi. He shoots, stuffed. Semenov scores with a shot just before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Semenov.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Luigi. Luigi throws a high kick, slips to the ground and Semenov pounces. Semenov throwing several punches, but Luigi gets to his feet. Semenov presses him into the corner. Ref separates them. One two from Semenov, again but Luigi lands a nice left counter. Superman punch from Luigi finds the mark. One two from Semenov. Semenov fires off a combo and Luigi shoots, takes him down into the ropes and the ref stands them up. Leg kick from Luigi. Nice one two from Luigi but Semenov just eats it. Big right from Semenov. Luigi shoots but ends up on his back with Semenov scoring punches. Luigi gets to his feet, seems tentative. Swings and misses. Semenov clinches, lands a knee to the groin and Luigi goes down. Ref calls time. Less than half a minute left and they both start swinging. Right hand from Semenov connects, then a one, two and that’s it folks. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Semenov and the fight 30-27 for Semenov.
