Strikeforce lightweight prospect Ryan Couture (1-0), son of the former UFC two-division champion Randy Couture, has been forced to pull out of a scheduled Nov. 19 bout against Juan Zapata due to a staph infection.

Couture had been scheduled to fight at the Strikeforce Challengers 12 card in Jackson, Miss. The event is headlined by a bout between Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro and Justin Wilcox.

“I was really looking forward to fighting so this is a big disappointment, but I’ll be back” Couture said in a November 1 press release.  “As soon as I’m cleared, you can bet I’ll be back in the gym preparing for my next Strikeforce fight.”

According to the promotion, Couture is expected to be out of action for four weeks.

Couture won his professional debut on Aug. 13, defeating Lucas Stark via first round triangle choke at Strikeforce Challengers 10.
