According to MMAPayout, Strikeforce fights will now be broadcast in Latin America and the Caribbean. The report says that SPACE TV will televise the promotion’s programming starting this month.
Strikeforce’s programming distributor Shine International brokered the deal with SPACE TV.
The deal will feature the broadcast of several previous Strikeforce events. The first event will be the Shamrock vs. Diaz event, which took place March 11, 2009. According to the schedule, a new event will be broadcast weekly until Jan. 12, 2011.
Last week, news broke that the UFC had signed a deal with Fox Sports Latin America. The deal includes pay-per-view cards, countdown shows and a highlight program similar to “UFC Unleashed.”
These television deals highlight both promotions’ attempts to reach the coveted Latin American market. The fans have been loyal supporters of boxing for years. However, their transition to MMA has been slower than expected.
