Former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture recently spent close to three months in Brazil and New Orleans, La. filming for his role in an upcoming Hollywood movie entitled “The Expendables.” The film was written and directed by Sylvester Stallone.
Co-starring alongside Couture in the movie are such A-listers as Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Bruce Willis, Eric Roberts, Stallone (not Frank), and more.
The plot revolves around a team of six mercenaries known as “The Expendables” who head to South America to overthrow a dictator. Each member of the team has their own specialty. Couture’s character, known as “Toll Road” specializes in hand-to-hand combat.
Couture talked about his character’s style of combat, “There were definitely some takedowns involved, a lot of slamming, a lot of breaking of limbs and necks and so on. I had a blast. I think my body count by the time it was all said and done was about twenty-six.”
Although away from his Xtreme Couture team and gym for an exteneded period, “The Natural” kept himself in shape by working out and sparring with a boxing and kickboxing instructor he knew from the stunt crew.
In the following video Mr. Sunshine talks with Randy about his experience filming “The Expendables” and for the first time, albeit briefly, he talks a bit about his divorce from female MMA fighter Kim Couture. “It’s not my first rodeo,” the former champ says.
