The Revolution Fight League based out of Louisville, Ky., will be holding its first event of 2009, “Maximum Impact,” at Harrah’s Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. this Sat., June 27.
Headlining the card will be a heavyweight bout between Clarksville, Tenn.’s Johnathan Ivey *(38-21) and Louisville MMA’s Ron “The Monster” Sparks, who comes in with an undefeated **7-0 record.
Ivey, while not boasting the best record, has fought many of the world’s top heavyweights including UFC veterans Dan Severn, Ricco Rodriguez and Jake O’Brien just to name a few.
Ivey has fought in many well known promotions such as the XFC, King of the Cage, Hookn’Shoot and IVC, and is recognized as having a very unorthodox, but entertaining fighting style.
He last fought back in April when he appeared on HDNet’s XFC 8: Regional Conflict card. Ivey lost a unanimous decision against the very athletic and big Chris Barnett, but showed great heart. His 23 submission victories shows he is a danger to anyone on the ground.
His opponent, Ron Sparks, is the current American Fight League Super Heavyweight Champion. He is a Louisville native and currently trains under the tutelage of Jason Y at Louisville MMA. Sparks has been featured on the cover of Tapout and MMA Worldwide magazines. With Ivey’s experience and explosiveness, this fight should be Sparks’ biggest test to date.
Scheduled to appear as special guests at “Maximum Impact” are former UFC Lightweight Champion and current WEC fighter Jens Pulver and TUF bad boy and UFC lightweight Junie Browning.
