Terrible news for Melvin Manhoef fans. This beast known worldwide to be one of the most devastating strikers in combat sports has retired from the professional competition. The announcement came following his horribly dissapointing first round triangle submission loss to Gerard Mousasi earlier this week at the Dream GP. His team made the announcement on German-language site Ground and Pound.de.

The decision is said to have been primarily because of a severe training regimen and a lack of time to spend with his family. The statement says that during the last year Manhoef had been training three times a day, seven days a week. The way he lost to Mousasi also seems to have played a factor in his decision to retire and it is said he does not know if or when he will return. However at only 32 years old it does seem that he will return at some point down the road. Hopefully sooner than later.
