The MMA Tonight (102.5 FM) crew was joined this week by Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate “The Great” Marquardt as he gets ready to face no. 1 contender Tarec Saffiedine on the final Strikeforce card Saturday night live on Showtime.

As someone who started out fighting at light heavyweight (205 lbs.), then fought at middleweight (180 lbs.) for years, Marquardt talked about his move to welterweight (170 lbs) and how the weight cut is becoming easier with each new fight. And as someone who has been fighting professionally since 1999, Marquardt discussed the evolution of the MMA athlete over the years.

Hosts Darren McFarland, Chris Pappas and Ed Clay previewed the Strikeforce card and looked back on some of the highlights of the promotion. The guys also recapped UFC 155 and Cain Velasquez‘s win over Junior Dos Santos for the heavyweight title, talked about the return of Alistair Overeem and the current state of the mixed martial arts industry.
