UFC 129 LIVE results and play-by-play

TORONTO — “UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields” takes place this evening in front of more than 55,000 fans at the Rogers Centre stadium in what will be the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first-ever visit to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Headlining the card in front of his countrymen is UFC welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St-Pierre (21-2), who will be defending his title against former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields (26-4-1).

Co-headlining the card is UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (18-1), who will be defending his title against Canadian challenger Mark “The Machine” Hominick (20-8).

Also featured on this card is UFC Hall of Famer Randy “The Natural” Couture (19-10), who claims this will be his final fight inside the Octagon as he takes on former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (16-2).

For the first time in UFC history, every fight on this card will broadcast LIVE, the preliminary card on Facebook and Spike TV, and the main card on Pay-Per-View.

UFC 129 play-by-play:

Jason MacDonald vs. Ryan Jensen

Round 1 – Jensen comes in swinging and MacDonald shoots, Jensen goes for the guillotine but MacDonald slips out and takes Jensen’s back, transitions and looking for a triangle. Jensen slams him but it locks up the triangle tighter. Rogan calls it early saying the fight is over, and he is right. Jensen throws a couple punches but in the end he is forced to tap out.

Ivan Menjivar vs. Charlie Valencia

Round 1 – Leg kick from Valencia, body kick. Body kick from Menjivar. Nice right from Menjivar. Left jab from Valencia. Both guys swing big and miss then tie up. Knees from the clinch from Menjivar, an elbow, then another big left elbow that knocks Valencia straight to his back as he covers up his face with his hands. Menjivar follows up with a flurry of punches to his downed opponent and the ref steps in. Referee John McCarthy is saying his nose is broken. Replay shows the elbow right on the bridge of the nose.

Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts

Round 1 — Roberts comes out quickly swinging but Patrick puts him right on his back and is on top in half guard. Roberts has wrist control of Patrick’s left arm, looking for a kimura. Patrick defending, they stand and square up. Both southpaws. Left hand from Patrick. He looks very calm. Right hand from Roberts. Big leg kick from Patrick. Clinches, and Roberts puts his opponent against the cage. Patrick pushes forward across the ring, still clinched, knee from Patrick. They separate and square up. Superman miss from Roberts, he shoots ugly, shrugged aside. Nice big left hand from Patrick and he taunts Roberts. He clinches and throws Roberts to the ground. Patrick inside full guard, rubber guard, lets it go and gets to his feet but is met with a flurry of punches from Patrick. Roberts is in trouble. Patrick attempts a front kick to the chin, doesn’t make full contact. They clinch until the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Patrick.

Round 2 – Gilbert Melendez telling Roberts to go for it. Leg kick from Roberts. Checked that time. Big leg kick from Patrick. Roberts catches his next one and puts Patrick on his back. Patrick gets up quickly, clinched. Knee from Patrick. Shots to the ribs. Knee to the chin of Roberts. They square up in the center of the Octagon… Superman miss from Roberts but lands a huge body kick. Leg kick from Patrick. He shoots, and gets Roberts down but Roberts locks on a guillotine, uses it to sweep and Roberts is on top in side control. Roberts in half guard now. Palm strikes from Patrick off his back. Full guard from Patrick, he gets on Patrick’s back, drags him to the ground but Patrick escapes and gets up, he pulls Roberts down but they get right up. Head kick and a right hand scores for Patrick, leg kick. Roberts with slow motion punches. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Patrick.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Patrick. Body kick from Roberts. Tries it again. Superman miss. Patrick hunting, clinches, pushes Roberts against the cage and pulls him to the ground. Patrick on top in full mount. Roberts achieves butterfly guard. Eats a big left. Roberts gets to his feet. They square up. Roberts shoots, drives Patrick to the fence. Patrick defends, lands some small punches. Roberts struggles for the takedown with less than a minute. Ref separates them. Inside leg kick from Patrick. Front kick to the body from Patrick, Roberts shoots and Patrick goes for a guillotine. Roberts gets free, ends up on top throwing some punches at the bell. Sean Pierson vs. Jake Ellenberger

Round 1 – Ellenberger lands the first punch. Right hand from Ellenberger scores. Right hand from Pierson. Leg kick from Ellenberger, shoots and puts Pierson down, but he bounces right up and they square up. Pierson inching forward as Ellenberger circles. Right hand from Ellenberger, clinch, let go and square up. Big left hook from Ellenberger scores and Pierson is stunned and starts falling toward the ground, Ellenberger clips him with a right as in mid-air and Pierson’s body gets shut off. Beautiful!

Rory MacDonald vs. Nate Diaz

Round 1 – Leg kick from MacDonald, front kick misses. Head kick just misses. Leg kick and Nate is talking to him. Leg kick from MacDonald. Light leg kick from MacDonald, another one. Diaz hunting him down. Stalking. Front kick and head kick from MacDonald and Diaz clinches. Knee to the body and a couple of punches from Diaz. Clinch, shoulder punches from Diaz. Knee. MacDonald drops levels and Diaz goes for the leg. Diaz gets right up and they square up. Superman punch on the button from MacDonald. Left jab. Head kick just misses. Leg kick from MacDonald and a front kick. Leg kick. Superman punch and a leg kick from MacDonald, goes for the takedown but is stuffed. They separate and square up. Front kick and leg kick from MacDonald and Diaz lands a one two. Diaz grabs a single leg, lets it go, MacDonald defends it and Diaz presses him against the cage. Round 2 – Leg kick from MacDonald, they clinch, he presses Diaz against the cage. Front kick from MacDonald, right hand from both guys, body shot from Diaz and he shoots, clinch. MacDonald with underhooks puts Diaz on his back. MacDonald lands a couple punches as Diaz tries to get up. He puts Diaz back on his back. MacDonald stands up lands a nice right as Diaz gets up. Left hand from Diaz. Body kick from MacDonald. Uppercut from MacDonald after taking a few shots. Left hand from Diaz scores. And a few short lefts to the face. Clinch, knees from Diaz to the thighs. Diaz with a trip takedown but MacDonald gets right up. Left hand and a leg kick from MacDonald. Diaz stalking. They exchange shots. Clinch. Knees to the thighs from Diaz. Flying knee from MacDonald. Round 3 – At only 21 years old this guy is going to be a factor. Body kick from MacDonald, just misses a head kick. Leg kick. Clinch, pushes Diaz to the fence. diaz lands several short punches to the body and thigh. Diaz slips to the ground and MacDonald takes his back, slams him big, does it again, basically dropping Diaz on his head. MacDonald stands over Diaz. Big right hand, twice, more. Suplexes Diaz again. Diaz looking for a double leg. MacDonald with underhooks. Knee to the face. They separate, Diaz shoots, stuffed, they stand, clinched. Diaz grabs a single leg but MacDonald takes Diaz and puts him on his back. Right hand from MacDonald, body shot, a left as he hovers over Diaz, left hand. Up kick from Diaz connects barely. Diaz is up and starts coming toward MacDonald but the bell sounds and MacDonald just spanked the TUF 5 winner. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for MacDonald and the fight 30-27 for MacDonald. This kid looked liked the white Jon Jones out there.

Benson Henderson vs. Mark Bocek

Round 1 – Leg kick from Ben but eats a right hand. Clinch, underhooks from Henderson, gives him a knee to think about. Ben pushing him against the cage. Knee to the gut. Knee to the thigh, Greco wrestle and the ref separates them. Front kick from Ben. Right hand from Bocek, shoots, stuffed. Turned into the cage by Hendo. Elbow from Ben. They square up. Leg kick from Ben. Inside leg kick from Bocek and Ben lands a big right leg kick. Right hand from Bocek. Leg kick from Ben. Body punch from Bocek.. Bocek shoots, grabs a single but eats several punches. Bocek kicks his back leg out from under him putting him down. Bocek puts Henderson on his back with butterfly guard. Less than 30 seconds to go. Ben landing shots from his back, has full guard. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Bocek.

Round 2 – Left hand from Hendo and Bocek shoots, grabs a single.Nice slam from Bocek. Hendo gets up lands a knee, clinched, knee to the face from Hendeerson. Ref separates them to the center. Nice punch leg kick combo from Henderson. Henderson slams him to the mat. Bocek locks an omoplata but Ben shakes him off. Bocek goes for a leg lock and Ben gives him several punches. Bocek gets to his feet from the clinch, eats a knee. Bocek with a front headlock, pulls Hendo to the ground. Bocek with an anaconda choke, turns it to a standing guillotine. Henderson rolls, stands, grabs a tie clinch and lands several knees, another big knee and an elbow and Bocek is opened up and bleeding from his head. Round 3 – Leg kick from Hendo and Bocek uses this to set up a takedown. Hendo locks on a loose guillotine and lets it go. Elbow to the top of the head from Henderson. Bocek staying busy with elbows and punches. Henderson sweeps him and lands some big punches and an elbow. Body punch from a standing position. Bocek locks up a leg, takes Hendo’s back, they stand. Hendo with underhooks. Knee from Hendo to the body. Hendo drags him down briefly, back up, Hendo going for a single leg, puts Bocek on his back. Gives him some shots to the ribs. Back to the feet and Hendo lands some big knees and elbows. Another big knee to Bocek’s body. Bocek shoots, gets the takedown with 30 seconds to go. Hendo gets to his knees. They stand and Hendo pours on the punches, Bocek throws a kick at the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Henderson and the fight 29-28 for Henderson.

Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz

Round 1 – Vladdy lands a big right uppercut, a left, Brilz goes down and Vladdy lands three hammerfists. Brilz goes limp and it’s all over just like that. Wow. The 40-year-old veteran teaches the younger Brilz a lesson.

Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida

Round 1 – Randy got an enormous welcome. Machida misses a couple punches. Right hand by Randy is blocked. Randy using feints. Lyoto lands a right hand. Couture trying to get to the inside. Left hand by Couture lands. Couture got his hands on him but Lyoto slipped free. Uppercut from Lyoto. Leg kick from Lyoto. Couture can’t keep his hands on him. Lands  a body shot. Quick right hand from Machida, again. Right hand from Couture. Couture pressuring. Left hand from Machida. Machida  with a knee to the gut. Randy trying to hold onto Machida but he keeps running. Randy lands a punch, clinch, Lyoto escapes. Big body kick from Lyoto. Knee to the gut from Lyoto, big one. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Machida. Couture said, “He’s slippery.”

Round 2 – Couture wanted to solve this puzzle, now’s his chance. Lyoto lands a couple punches, they go to the ground and back up. Side kick to the leg from Lyoto, left hand. Couture stalking. Right hand from Lyoto. Machida fakes a left and jumps in with a front kick to the face – Karate Kid style Crane Kick to the face and Randy Couture is out. Randy gets back to his feet waves to the crowd and congratulates Machida. The crowd roars for Randy.

NOTES: Randy gives his farewell speech. Looks like he got a tooth knocked out from the kick. — The replay slo-mo shows the kick of Lyoto was even more impressive than Anderson Silva’s, because he actually fakes with the left, and there was no follow up, he was out.

UFC Featherweight Championship
Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick

Round 1 – Jose does not look at Hominick at the face off, keeps his head down. Touch gloves. Uppercut and a right from Aldo, leg kick. Uppercut, leg kick. He slips a one two from Hominick. Left hook to the liver and a big leg kick from Aldo. Hominick coming forward. Left hand from Hominick. Uppercut from Aldo, big leg kick. Hominick catches a kick and Aldo falls but gets up. Left hand and a leg kick from Aldo. Big left to the gut and leg kick from Aldo. Aldo gets the takedown. Hominick looks for an armbar, Aldo pulls out, inside his guard now. Right hand, lefts from Aldo. Elbow, another. Elbow, closed guard of Hominick. Couple more elbows from Aldo. Big John warns Aldo to stay busy. Hominick with a small cut under his eye. Big right from Aldo. Big John stands them up. Right hand from Aldo. Hominick fires back, but Aldo puts him back down. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Aldo.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Aldo. Hominick with a left, not scared to get in Aldo’s face. Big body shot. Right hand. Uppercut from Aldo. Leg kick from Aldo. Body shot from Hominick. Aldo may be getting tired. Hominick is stuffing his shots now. Hominick scores with a couple punches. Aldo had a tough weight cut Rogan says. Aldo slips a combo from Hominick. Aldo puts him on his back though. Elbow from Aldo, pushes him against the cage. Hominick uses his feet to turn his head away from the cage. Aldo stands and lands a big one two. Elbow from Aldo. Hominick warned for holding the fence. Big John stands them up. Right hand from Aldo. Leg kick from Hominick. Aldo with another takedown, moves to side control. Aldo using tight little elbows. Round 3 – Uppercut from Aldo. Leg kick from Hominick. Leg kick from Aldo. Nice left from Hominick. Aldo with good head movement, one two punch. Leg kick from Hominick. Left hook from Aldo backs Hominick up. Aldo shoots, stuffed. Aldo using such great head movement dodging the punches. Aldo with a counter to the chin and a leg kick buckles Hominick. Another counter from Aldo on the button. Big body shot from Hominick. Aldo shoots, puts him down but Hominick bounces right up. Hominick slipping several punches too. Nice right from Aldo rocks Hominck, he goes down and Aldo follows up but Hominick hangs on and has full guard. Hominick’s face is busted up and bleeding. Elbows from Aldo. Double palm strikes to the ears from Hominick. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Aldo.

Round 4 – Leg kick from Hominick. Lefts from Hominick. Big leg kick from Aldo. Nice one two and a knee from Aldo. One two, leg kick from Aldo. Nice left from Aldo as he counters. Aldo lands a low blow and is warned. One two from Aldo, leg kick. Another leg kick and Hominick is limping. Left hand from Hominick. Left hand from Aldo. Big left to the gut and leg kick from Aldo. One two from Hominick. double jab from Hominick but Aldo lands a right on the button and Hominick drops to his back. Aldo attacks and Hominick has a hugge hematoma on his forehead. Very nasty and Aldo is beating on it. This fight needs to be stopped. Hominick just felt his head  and said “holy shit.” Big John stops it to look at Hominick’s head. I cannot believe they are letting this fight continue. The doctor asked him if he wants to go and he said yes. Big right from Aldo and he takes Hominick down. Round 5 – They got some of the swelling down but the doctor comes back in to check him out. He’s okay. Leg kick from Aldo. Aldo slips a punch and counters with a big left. Big uppercut stuns Hominick. Hominick gets the takedown and is on top in half guard. Hominick’s face is a bloody mess and is painting the canvas red. Hominick lands a couple of big lefts, two more as Aldo tries to control his wrists. Hominick with ground and pound and the crowd erupts cheering for their Canadian contender. Two minutes to go. Body shots from Hominick. Big left to the face from Hominick as Aldo tries to slow the attack with wrist control. Aldo appears to be gassed, just trying to ride it out it seems. Thirty seconds to go. Hominick postures up with more shots, he stays busy but no real damage done here. Hominick helps Aldo up, they hug and they both do push ups. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Hominick but scores the fight 49-46 for Aldo.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields

Round 1 – Jake has the eye of the tiger. Leg kick from Jake, then a head kick. Body kick blocked. Jab from GSP, leg kick. Jake Catches a leg of GSP, pushes him against the cage. Gets his arms around him. GSP backs out to the center of the cage. Jab from Shields lands. Leg kick from Jake. Body kick. GSP misses a spinning kick again. Jab from GSP, another. Spinning kick from GSP misses. Leg kick from Jake. Right hand from GSP. GSP lands a left that knocks Jake off balance, twice. Jake catches his leg but can’t do anything with it. Jake turns southpaw. Leg kick from GSP. Big right from GSP. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for GSP.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Shields. Right hand from GSP. Right hand from Jake. Leg kick from GSP. Big leg kick from GSP. Leg kick from Jake. Big overhand right from GSP. Another right from GSP. Spinning back kick to the gut from GSP. Body kick from Jake. Left jab from GSP. Briefly clinch, GSP backs out, big right. Leg kick from GSP, Jake shoots, stuffed. Round 3 – Shields coming forward faster. GSP with a jab. Body kick from Shields. Big right from GSP, Shields shoots, stuffed. Clinch, GSP pushes Jake away. Shields’ kicks are very slow, his takedown stuffed. Big leg kick from GSP. Lazy leg kick from Shields. Body kick from Shields. Body kick from Jake. Left hand from Jake counters a spinning kick. Left jab from GSP. GSP gets the takedown with 15 seconds left.  ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for GSP.

Round 4 – Georges said between rounds he can’t see out of his left eye. Shields lands a couple jabs. GSP gets a takedown, but lets him up. One two from Shields. Right from Shields. Left from GSP. Shields clinches, GSP pushes him off, left to the body. Body kick from Jake. Right from GSP. Body punch from GSP and he lands a head kick that drops Shields. Shields gets his leg and GSP pulls right out of it like a greasy eel. Jab from GSP scores. Right jab from Shields. Shields taunting him. GSP’s face is bloody. Left from Shields and a jab. Overhand right from GSP. Right hand from Shields. Jab from Shields. GSP’s nose is bleeding.  ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Shields.

Round 5 – Shields’ corner tells him GSP is hurt. Body punch from GSP. Shields stalking. Jab from Shields. Big right from GSP. Right hand from GSP. Again. Left hand from Shields, and a right. Right hand from Shields. Left jab from GSP. Left jab from Shields. Leg kick from GSP. Right hand from Jake. GSP can’t do anything to Jake and Jake can’t do anything much to GSP either, kind of a stale mate here. Kind of an unfortunate style match up to be honest. GSP shoots near the end of the round but doesn’t get it. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Shields and the fight 48-47 for GSP. St-Pierre definitely looks the worse for the wear but he did out-score Jake.
