Jon "Bones" Jones shot to #1 in the 205-pound rankings after his brutal victory at UFC 128 over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua

ProMMAnow.com has unveiled its updated mixed martial arts rankings as of March 28, covering all the weight classes from bantamweight to heavyweight.

Three members of the staff have participated this month — John Buhl, Richard Mann, and Kelvin Hunt. Rather than combining the rankings, all three have their say, giving readers a chance to see the differences and generate additional debate over the always difficult task, balancing a fighters overall record, quality wins, and current talent level.

Each writer did agree on who reigns supreme at each weight. Dominick Cruz and Jose Aldo haven’t yet defended their titles in the UFC, but both claimed the #1 spots at bantamweight and featherweight, respectively, based on their dominance in the WEC. Frankie Edgar escaped with a draw after an early onslaught against Gray Maynard at UFC 125, but he’s still the champ and retains the top lightweight spot.

As for welterweight and middleweight, there hasn’t been any change at number one for a long time. UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva are both at the top. And despite his relative lack of experience, there is no doubt Jon Jones is the best light heavyweight around following his dismantling of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to take the UFC title.

The heavyweight division is a little murkier. UFC heavyweight title holder Cain Velasquez earned the #1 spot across the board, but there wasn’t much agreement after that. With Strikeforce’s impressive heavyweight roster, we might have to wait some time to find out who where they all really stack up.

So head over to the UFC Room (actually just hover your mouse over the tab) and click on the “Rankings” link that pops up below.

  1. I thought they were all good. Some differences in mine personally, but that is bound to happen.
