Ishii in some Judo action

Last weekend 2008 Olympic gold medalist Satoshi Ishii suffered the second defeat of his young MMA career when the referee disqualified him for failing to stop punching Myles Tynanes at the end of round one. Now the promotion, X-1, has said that the referee acted too slow and thus the result has been changed to a no contest.

NightmareOfBattle.com reported the change citing Japanese language website Sponichi.co.jp.

Ishii made his long-awaited debut on New Year’s Eve and dropped a decision to fellow gold medalist Hidehiko Yoshida. Since then, Ishii has regrouped and taken two victories in his next three fights, one an exhibition and one professional. Prior to his no contest with Tynanes, Ishii scored a submission victory over Tafa Misipati in New Zealand.

According to NightmageOfBattle, Ishii’s next fight will probably come on one of Impact FC’s first two cards. The Australian promotion is set to have shows on both July 10 and 18 and will feature notable MMA fighters like Josh Barnett, Ken Shamrock and Paulo Filho.

Sengoku Raiden Championship director Mukai is also cited as saying that the promotion is working to secure the fighter for SRC 14. However, Ishii’s participation on the Aug. 22 card is dependent on the promotion’s ability to find an opponent.
