Human Cock Fighter Blog – Thumpin’ in Tulsa

Hunger breeds aggression breeds success breeds confidence breeds a champion.  At Hillbilly Fight Wear we print a shirt that says “Thump A Stranger.” Well there was a whole lot of thumpin’ goin on in Tulsa on Saturday night.

In a stacked card of 20 fights that included 7 UFC veterans and countless skilled journeymen, very few went the distance. 5150 and XFL put together the deepest mid-level show I have ever seen. The greatest part was that I got to watch the show from backstage.

I cut weight with Victor Moreno and Kevin Burns on Friday after driving the four hours from Kansas City in my ‘93 Chevy Silverado. Seven pounds I shed in two hours at the Aspen Fitness Center. I took this fight Wednesday morning following another last minute offer from matchmaker Cris Powell.

I stepped in to fill Jason Lambert’s place who injured a knee. My opponent, a United States Marine, was Chris Davis from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was coming off a loss to TUF finalist, Vinny Magalaes, and I was coming off a submission victory over TUF 8 cast member Ryan Lopez.

I warmed up for what I thought would be an 11pm start only to stew til nearly 1am before I got my chance. Rough and ready I entered the six-sided cage with blood stained white mat to fight in the biggest show of my career.

Beau Taylor did his greatest Buffer impersonation, “Standing 6’4” tall, fighting out of Kansas City, Missouri, representing the Hillbilly Fight Team, BRAD IMES!  My first blog for PROMMA was given the title, “In the shadow of a giant, a hillbilly fight story!” After nine professional fights I was standing in that shadow and Brad wasn‘t even in the room.

I can only imagine how bad Beau felt about his honest mistake. The reality is that my brother has a lot of fans and carries a lot of respect in the world of mixed martial arts, which  he earned every ounce of with his incredible heart, drive and success.

The career of Brian Imes is young, evolving and it was an honor to be part of such a distinguished crowd so early. I ended up taking the first substantial whoopin’ of my career, bleeding like a stuck pig from my nose, which is broken, but still beautiful. And I am proud to say that I contributed some color to a cage that housed a lot of talent and class on a Saturday evening. Please, no hate mail about the flying knee!

The greatest stories of my life are yet unwritten and most likely on short notice, but this fighter is always ready for what may come.

Great article Brian (not BRAD! lol). You are pretty damn good entertainer, first in the cage and some of the best work I have seen online in your articles. I dont know if I would remember that much after a fight.

    Great read!
