The Divas asked her about her upcoming fight on Nov. 7 with Marloes Coenen which will be featured on Strikeforce:
“I had a meeting with Scott Coker up in LA and talked to him for about an hour or so and just expressed what I wanted to do in the division and how I’d like to be a part of it… I think a lot of people knew that Aug. 15 I was supposed to be on the under-card and my management at the time, I just had a lot of issues with communication and contract issues, and we just weren’t able to get anything written to have me involved in that portion… By the time everything blew aside… it was just too late to do anything. From that point until now we have been negotiating and it finally came about even if it was by default. I’m happy to get my opportunity. It was a multi-fight deal that I signed and this will be the first one and I’m taking Cyborg’s place because she got injured.”
Toughill and Coenen have faced each other before. In 2004, Toughill defeated Coenen in a tournament match. When asked about the pressure of the rematch Toughill said,
“It was five years ago and I’m sure both of us have grown as fighters. I don’t really look at anything that she’s done; I try to focus on myself. My job is to get in there and really kick her ass. This is a very important fight for both of us. I’ve been following her wins and losses and I know where I can capitalize. I think there’s more pressure on Marloes because she was expecting to fight someone totally different [Cyborg]. I bring a different style to the table.”
The winner of this fight could presumably be a contender for Cyborg who currently holds the belt. Toughill and Coenen are scheduled to be the final fight on the under-card so there is no guarantee that the fight will be televised.
Of course, the CageDivas send out support for Erin in her fight against Marloes Coenen on Nov. 7 in Strikeforce. BE SURE TO WATCH!!!
