“DEEP – 43 Impact” takes place Sun., Aug. 23 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. In addition to two title fights on the card, Ryo Chonan (15-10) will have a Japan homecoming as he gets back to action in his first bout since being released from the UFC earlier this year.

Chonan went 1-3 in the UFC after arriving in 2007. All his bouts within the UFC went to decision, with losses to Karo Parisyan, Brad Blackburn, and most recently to T.J. Grant at UFC 97. He did defeat Roan Carneiro at UFC 88 via split decision.

Chonan will be taking on the very tough Jutaro Nakao (22-14-4) in the main event. Nakao is a 13-year veteran who defeated Tony DeSouza at UFC 33 via second round knockout. He then went the distance with Sean Sherk at UFC 36, losing a unanimous decision.

Nakao also holds a triangle choke win over Pat Miletich way back in 1999 at “SuperBrawl 11” in Hawaii, and a knockout win over Shinya Aoki at “Deep – 16th Impact” in 2004. Chonan will have his hands full that is for sure.
