ProMMA.info “UFC Fight Night 20” staff picks

“UFC Fight Night 20” takes place Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. The event will air live on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

Headlining the card we have Gray “The Bully” Maynard taking on TUF 5 winner Nate Diaz. Diaz needs to keep putting together some wins, and a victory over top ten ranked Maynard would definitely be a nice feather in his cap as well as boosting his stock considerably in the lightweight division.

Diaz will have his hands full against Maynard who is undefeated and is one of the top contenders in line for a shot at B.J. Penn’s lightweight title. Here are our predictions for “UFC Fight Night 20”:

“UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira” took place Sat., Aug. 29, 2009 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore. It was the UFC’s first event in Oregon and the crowd had to be pleased with what they saw. Without a doubt, the main event fight between legends Randy Couture and Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira stole the show and absolutely deserve “Fight of the Night” honors if not “Fight of the Year.”

Dana White reported at the UFC 102 post-fight press conference, that tonight’s event did not sell out the Rose Garden, with a paid attendance of 16,088, but those numbers do rank in the top five for the state of Oregon. White also reported a live gate of $1.92 million.

Following UFC 97, Dana White confirmed his friend, Chuck Liddell, would “be with him forever” as part of the UFC, but it was his last time in the Octagon. “You will never see him on that canvas again” said the UFC President.

UFC 93 fight night bonuses

The UFC awarded $40,000 bonuses on Saturday January 17 at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland. The awards went to the usual categories except there were two “Fight of the Night” bonuses awarded to two different fights.

“The Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis and Chris “Lights Out” Lytle kept their word and delivered a stand up brawl that went to a split decision and deservedly won “Fight of the Night” honors.

The second “Fight of the Night” bonus was awarded to former Pride middleweight Grand Prix winner, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and UFC Hall of Famer, Mark “The Hammer” Coleman. Both fighters gave it all they had (which wasn’t much) and were rewarded the extra bonus for their “show of heart.”

UFC Fight for the Troops – PREVIEW

Main Event

Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
Yoshiyuki Yoshida is probably one of the best welterweights that few people know about in North America. The problem for Yoshida is that he has run into someone with a very similar skill set. Yoshida likes to dirty box in the clinch and dominate from the top position. If they do clinch up Koscheck will be able to use his superior wrestling to take the fight to the ground, and there is little chance that Yoshida will be able to attain top position. Koscheck did have a rough go of it in his last fight, which was only 46 days ago, he will able to win this fight by decision.
