Las Vegas, NV (USA) – The city of Columbus, Ohio has a tradition of showcasing some of the best in the worlds of fitness, bodybuilding, martial arts, and wrestling during the first weekend of March. The recent trend of premier mixed martial arts competition invading Ohio continues this year, as World Extreme Cagefighting® brings the greatest lighter weight fighters in the sport to Nationwide Arena.

On Saturday, March 6, 2010, WEC heads to Columbus, Ohio with a stacked card headlined by a world bantamweight title fight between champion Brian Bowles and number one contender Dominick Cruz. Dominick Cruz gives Benavidez first defeat

Dominick Cruz gave Joseph Benavidez his first defeat Sunday night at WEC 42 in Las Vegas. Benavidez, who was 10-0 coming into the fight, was pitted against Cruz’s longer reach and height advantage.

The two were pretty even on the feet, but due to Cruz’s reach, Benavidez could not sit in the pocket for long, so his game plan was to move in, throw some combos, and get back out.

Because Benavidez was a New Mexico state wrestling champion, most people, including Benavidez, was probably not expecting Cruz to take him down so easily and often.

WEC 42 weigh-in results

The weigh-ins for “WEC 42: Torres vs. Bowles” took place Saturday afternoon at Body English inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. in preparation for Sunday night’s event which will air live on Versus and will be available outside the U.S. in an online pay-per-view on the WEC website www.wec.tv.
