Mukai “Afrikan Assassin” Maromo (8-2) has signed a multi-fight deal and championship bout agreement for MFC 36: Reality Check.

Maromo is the top-ranked lightweight No. 1 contender. He will face off against Graham Spencer (9-1, 1 NC) on February 15th for the MFC lightweight crown in the co-main event to be held at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. The fight will also be available live on AXS TV Fights.

Maromo will come into the fight with a five win streak and off of back-to-back wins against U.S. Marine Adam Lynn at MFCs 33 and 34. Maromo previously lost to Spencer in an ERA Fight Night on Dec. 3, 2010 via unanimous decision. He has long awaited the chance to settle the score stating, “That loss has stuck with me, and I need to get it back.”

“Many fans and mixed martial arts insiders already view Mukai as the uncrowned champion. Well, what a better way to prove that you truly are the champion than by getting a measure of revenge against the last guy to beat you,” said Mark Pavelich, MFC Owner/President. He added, “Mukai and Graham are elite-level fighters – two of the very best in the entire MFC – and they should fight for the title.”

Spencer debuted at MFC 35 where he won by decision against Shane Nelson. He will come into the title match against Maromo with a four streak win. The tension between the two fighters and the anticipation for fans will likely build up to one of the greatest clashes in MFC recent history.

The chances of Maromo going after the newly minted featherweight division title belt was also on his mind. “All along my plan has been to become the MFC lightweight champ,” said Maromo. “I want to become the first Canadian-based fighter to win that belt. I want to make that mark, and then I want to defend the title successfully. After that I’ll see where my journey takes me next.”

Pavelich was ecstatic to sign Maromo for the title fight and is proud to be able to offer fight fans a fighter of his caliber locked in for a long-term contract.
