It has emerged that welterweight fighter Thiago Alves (19-9) has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 149 fight against Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1) due to an undisclosed injury.
The nature of Thiago’s injury is unknown at this stage but the fighter confirmed that he will undergo surgery next Tuesday on his Twitter page.
UFC 149 is set to take place on July 21st at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The event will be headlined by a featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Erik Koch.
The UFC is currently looking for a replacement to face Siyar Bahadurzada.
Bahadurzada is coming off a big UFC debut victory over Paulo Thiago at the UFC on Fuel TV event that took place in Sweden earlier this year. Siyar knocked out the Brazilian in the first round picking up “Knockout of the Night” honors in the process. Prior to joining the UFC Bahadurzada experienced success fighting for various promotions in Japan and Europe. The Afghan fighter is currently on a seven fight winning streak and has an extremely exciting fighting style.
