“I’m back on the grind”

It’s been a little while since I’ve blogged and some of you probably didn’t miss me too much, but I am back. I know, I know… you probably stopped reading already.

December 2nd is fast approaching and Tachi Palace Fights 11 “Redemption” is ready to jump off that’s for sure. I think Richard Goodman and myself have put together a pretty strong fight card, featuring some great prospects as well as local stars.

You’ll get to see guys like No. 1 flyweight in the World Ian McCall and UFC vet Will Campuzano. Plus two other title fights.

We had a difficult time trying to fill a featherweight title fight with Isaac DeJesus and a lightweight bout with Fabricio Camoes, but things came together and we were able to get Bellator veteran Georgi Karakhanyan to fight DeJesus and a long-time fan favorite at the Palace Thomas Denny to battle Camoes.

Also, we added NCAA 2011 Wrestling champ Bubba Jenkins to the card. Tachi has always been a hot bed for MMA, especially former wrestling stars making the transition into MMA.

Jenkins will follow the likes of Chad Mendes, Phil Davis and Mark Munoz as notable UFC stars that have fought at Tachi in recent years and came from a strong wrestling pedigree.

Signing Jenkins was probably the biggest and most significant signing in my eyes for this card. I’ve always been a fan of high school and collegiate wrestling and watching their transition into MMA is something I enjoy following.

Jenkins is a different type of athlete and it will be interesting to see the type of impact he can make in MMA. Not to mention, he is a character as well.

For now I’m back on the grind of paper work, media, promotions, etc. Not always the most exciting part of the job, but a necessity. The tickets really won’t sell themselves. And the fighters sure as heck won’t stay on top of their commission obligations if you’re not on top of them.

I’m also looking forward to getting married at the end of October, my son is playing football and wrestling, and my daughters are kicking butt in school.

My personal life is starting to take shape, which makes for better days in the office that’s for sure.

Once again, I’m glad to be back writing and sharing some of the behind the scenes work on Tachi Palace Fights from fight cards to promoting and live streaming to the commissions.
