Mike Massenzio (left) and Steve Cantwell are dropping to 185-pounds for their battle at UFC 136 on October 8 in Houston, Texas.

Former WEC light heavyweight champion Steve Cantwell returns to the Octagon on Oct. 8 to take on New Jersey native Mike Massenzio in a middleweight match-up at UFC 136 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

UFC President Dana White confirmed on Monday verbal agreements were in place.

Although Cantwell (7-4), age 24, won his UFC debut via armbar against Razak Al-Hassan in Dec. 2008, he has dropped his last three bouts, most recently to Cyrille Diabate in March.

Both Cantwell and Massenzio will be dropping to 185 for this bout.

Massenzio (12-5), age 28, has traditionally fought at middleweight, but moved up to light heavyweight for his last fight, a unanimous decision loss to Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 131 in June.

Like Cantwell, Massenzio is also 1-3 inside the UFC. One would speculate their jobs are going to be on the line on Oct. 8.

UFC 136 is headlined with two title fights including Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard for the lightweight title and Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian for the featherweight title. For the full UFC 136 line-up as it stands see ProMMAnow.com’s Upcoming Events page.
