HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Bellator Fighting Championships kicks off their Summer Series tonight with Bellator 46 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The event features the opening round of their Summer Featherweight Tournament and will air LIVE on MTV2 at 9 p.m. ET.

Pat Curran vs. Luis “Baboon” Palomino

Round 1 – Leg kick from Palomino, checked. Curran with a body kick, he swings big with an overhand right but only hits air. Leg kick from Palomino. Body kick from Curran. Switch kick, right hand from Palomino. Curran drops him with a big right. As Palomino stands up, Curran runs at him with a flying knee but misses. He then takes Palomino down and is on top in half guard. Curran locks up a D’arce, has to readjust but Palomino gets to his knees and is free. Curran steps over with a Peruvian necktie, and just like that, the Peruvian Palomino taps out and Curran advances to the featherweight semifinals. Beautiful!

Genair “Junior PQD” da Silva vs. Marlon Sandro

Round 1 – Sandro stalking with some big punches. Leg kick. Inside leg kick followed by a right hand from Sandro. Big right hand from Sandro. Leg kick from da Silva. Big leg kick from da Silva. Nice right from Sandro, uppercut, then connects with another solid right that stuns da Silva. Leg kick from Sandro knocks da Silva off balance. Spinning back kick lands in the gut of Sandro from da Silva. Sandro picking his shots, he connects big and da Silva goes down. Sandro jumps on him with a guillotine, but da Silva pops out and Sandro is on the bottom. He gets up and da Silva tries to take his back. They scramble back to their feet and square up. They exchange with some big shots. Da Silva misses with a big punch. Leg kick from da Silva, Sandro counters with a big right. Great round, very exciting. Round 2 – Sandro lands a low blow unintentionally. The ref halts it for a moment. Right hand from da Silva. Sandro stalking, feinting, da Silva with some kicks but all of them ar blocked and Sandro keeps moving forward picking his shots. Big leg kick from Sandro. Sandro countering. Da Silva lands an overhand right. Inside leg kick from Sandro. Da Silva swings wild and misses and Sandro counters with a right. Da Silva rushes in wild with windmill punches, but nothing really lands. Leg kick from Sandro, da Silva lands a right. Heel kick misses from da Silva. Nice combo from da Silva. Sandro stalking and da Silva on his bicycle moving side to side and backward. ProMMAnow.com scores the roudn 10-9 for Sandro. The action slowed down in this round. A few good exchanges but nothing like round one.

Round 3 – Inside leg kick from Sandro and da Silva kicks him in the groin. Time out is called. Jumping kick from da Silva and he eats a counter left. Da Silva shoots, stuffed. One two from Sandro. Big right hand stuns Sandro, he calls da Silva on. Da Silva shoots, stuffed, presses Sandro to the cage. Ref calls time and tells da Silva to quit grabbing the fence (he does not speak English). Da Silva lands a nice left, now a right. Body shot from da Silva. Sandro shoots, stuffed. Left jab from Sandro and da Silva lands a kick to the body. Nice one two from Sandro. Da Silva not backing up near as much this round, being much more aggressive. Sandro shoots, gets the trip takedown. Sandro on top in half guard. He lands some hammerfists and da Silva punches from his back. Da Silva is back to his feet. Ten seconds to go. Sandro calls him on but time runs out. COMMENTS: How in the world any judge could score that fight for da Silva is absolutely ridiculous. To give him one round is not even understandable really, but two rounds is impossible.

Jacob Devree vs. Nazareno “Naza” Malegarie

Round 1 – Malegarie shoots, gets the takedown and immediately hooks up a guillotine; arm is in and has half guard. It looks pretty tight but Devree is working hard, and gets out. Devree puts some punches to the ribs then starts to back out and Malegarie locks up a leg. Devree escapes the submission but Malegarie grabs him with a body lock and recovers full guard. The ref stands them up. Nice solid combo from Devree. Left hook from Devree, nice one two jab, then a right. Malegarie shoots, stuffed. Devree with a double jab. Malegarie shoots, gets a single leg. Devree  has half guard, they scramble and the round ends with Malegarie trying to take his back. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Malegarie. Devree landed the better punches, but Malegarie had the takedowns and submission attempts, one of them pretty close to ending the fight.

Round 2 – Big right from Malegarie. He shoots, stuffed. Malegarie locks on the guillotine, turns it over so he’s on top. Devree uses the cage to flip over but Malegarie rolls it back over and he’s in full mount although Devree gets his head out. Malegarie has his back with hooks in as Devree rolls over. Malegarie softening him up with punches and Devree escapes the mount and achieves half guard. He eventually gets to his feet but gets taken back down. Malegarie on top, goes for a heel hook. Devree escapes to his feet. He kicks the thigh of Malegarie and dives in with a big right but does not connect. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Malegarie. He had the takedowns and maintained top control much of the round.

Round 3 – Nice uppercut from Devree. Left jab from Malegarie, shoots, and gets the takedown. Big left hands to the body from Malegarie. Devree controlling one wrist but eats a couple punches. Devree pops up on one knee but leaves his neck exposed and Malegarie locks on a guillotine from top position, they roll, and this time, the third guillotine choke attempt of the fight, Devree taps out.

COMMENTS: This is Malegarie’s first win in the U.S. and in Bellator. He said after the fight he plans to win the tournament.

Ronnie “Kid Ninja” Mann vs. Adam Schindler

Round 1 – Shawn Tompkins in Mann’s corner. Leg kick from Schindler. Nice one two frim Schindler. Mann fires back and connects hard with several punches as Mann attempts to clinch up. Schindler pushes him against the cage. Mann backs out. They exchange high kicks, Mann with a front kick, Schindler with a round house, both connecting to the face. Leg kick from Schindler. Big right from Mann. Schindler shoots from the outside, stuffed. Mann connects again, big leg kick following. Mann with another right hand. Inside leg kick from Mann. Mann catches a kick, lets it go and fires off punches. Body punch, kick from Mann. Mann drops Schindler with a big left hook. He jumps on him and unleashes a jackhammer of hammerfists and Schindler goes limp. Beautiful performance by “Kid Ninja”.
