Sources close to PRO MMA (promma.info) confirmed that Josh “The Punk” Thomson and Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez will meet for the second time on Strikeforce’s April 11th card.
Thomson and Melendez fought on June 27th last year at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. The two lightweights battled for five full rounds, with Thomson earning the Unanimous Decision victory and the Strikeforce 155 pound title.
KJ Noons had been offered to fight “The Punk” in a Elite XC- Strikeforce unification bout; however, Noons elected to continue to pursue his boxing career.
Melendez defeated Clay Guida back in June of 2006 for the title, after Guida had beaten Thomson three months prior for the then vacant Strikeforce 155 pound title.
