UFC President Dana White, while in Canada trying to fix the UFC 97 debacle, confirmed that UFC 100 will be on July 11th at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas during a recent interview on Canadian radio network CKAC Sports 730 AM. White also hinted that current Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre, will defend his title at UFC 100. Although Mr. White did not confirm St. Pierre’s opponent, most believe it is Thiago ‘The Pitbull’ Alves, including the number one contender himself.

St. Pierre is coming off of a complete domination victory over B.J. Penn, in what many are now calling ‘Vaseline Gate’. During the fight, St. Pierre’s corner was admonished for not wiping Vaseline off of their hands before rubbing the champions back, thus making him slippery. Penn’s camp has since filed a formal greivance with the Nevada State Athletic Commision. St. Pierre has verbally offered Penn a rematch, which B.J. has accepted, but the fight has not been signed or commented on by UFC officials.

The number one contender at welterweight, is unquestionably Thiago ‘The Pitbull’ Alves, who has utterly dominated his last seven opponents. The American Top Team fighter has been offered other fights since defeating Josh Koscheck in October. However, he decided to wait patiently for his much deserved title shot.

UFC’s 100th event, which is actually its 132nd event if you include the TUF Finales and Ultimate Fight Nights on Spike TV, will be held at Mandalay Bay for the first time since July 2008, at UFC 86. Most of the UFC’s Las Vegas events have since been at the MGM Grand which holds 15,000 fans, 4,000 more than the Mandalay Bay Resort.
