Josh Thomson will have to wait to make his first attempt at defending his Strikeforce Lightweight title.

SI.com’s Josh Gross has reported Duane “Bang” Ludwig will likely replace the champion in the bout against Yves Edwards

According to Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker, Thomson tore ligaments in his toe causing the American Kickboxing Academy fighter to pull out of the bout.

Thomson and Edwards were poised to meet for a second time. Their first bout at UFC 49 became famous for Edwards running into a head kick knockout from Thomson toward the end of the first round.

Ludwig comes in to the bout with less than two weeks notice and fresh off the heels of his October 3rd TKO of Sam Morgan at Strikeforce: Payback

Ludwig and Edwards will square off at Strikforce: Destruction on November 21st at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California.
