Matt Riddle joins Bellator’s Season 9 Welterweight Tournament

After having two of his four straight wins inside the UFC overturned due to testing positive for marijuana within the last year, Matt Riddle was released from the organization in February. Riddle then signed with Texas-based promotion Legacy Fighting Championships, but his contract has since been bought out by Bellator MMA. Riddle will now take part in Bellator's Season 9 Welterweight Tournament this Fall. Read More »

It was announced by Florida-based MMA promotion Xtreme Fighting Championships on Friday they had stripped their lightweight champion Nick Newell (9-0) of his title for refusing to fight Scott Holtzman (4-0) in the XFC 24 main event on June 14, a fight the organization had been promoting and selling tickets to for some time. The main event of XFC 24 was set to pit fast rising lightweight Scott Holtzman (4-0) against the champion Nick Newell (9-0). Newell made his way through the ranks after the XFC signed him following their open fighter tryouts. Holtzman won his way into the promotion as an amateur and has since finished three of his four opponents to capture the number one contender spot for Newell's belt. Fighter weigh-ins for "MFC 37: True Grit" took place today in preparation for Friday's fight card at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The event, which will broadcast LIVE on AXStv, with prelims streaming on Facebook, features Ryan Benoit (6-1) vs. Anthony Birchak (9-1) in the main event.
