Jay Z’s Life + Times takes a look at one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history with “STATIC: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen”. In 2010, Chael Sonnen showed the MMA world what trash talk was all about. The insults and ridicule he lobbed at then UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva were legendary and he took the gift of gab to mythical proportions. Sonnen backed up his trash talk too by beating “The Spider” up for four-and-a-half rounds until he got caught in a triangle in the final minutes of the fight.
Two years later Sonnen earned himself a rematch — and upped the ante on the trash talk even further. Although Sonnen started the rematch in much the same way he did the first fight, by putting Silva on his back and working the ground and pound, Silva came out in round two and finished Sonnen with a knee to the body earning the TKO victory. After two defeats from “The Spider”, Sonnen finally shut up.
Anderson Silva’s manager Ed Soares is helping produce this new STATIC series in collaboration with Jay Z’s Life + Times. There are three more MMA-related STATIC episodes which will be released each Monday throughout the rest of June. The other episodes will highlight the rivalries of Nick Diaz vs. Jason Miller, Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate, and Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber.
