SPRING HILL, Tenn. — ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) was on the scene at UAW Hall in Spring Hill, Tenn., Friday night for “Rhino Fights VII: Redemption“. In the night’s main event Strikeforce veteran Luke Sanders of Nashville MMA kept his undefeated record in tact by edging out a split decision win over Javon Wright of Modern Combat Systems in St. Louis, Mo.
It was a close fight that saw Wright’s reach and high level striking pose some problems for the undefeated Sanders, who had been out of action for a little over a year. Sanders’ wrestling and clinch game seemed to be the deciding factor though as he was able to stand in the pocket and exchange strikes, but rely on his superior grappling and strength when necessary. Keep an eye on Sanders as he looks to extend his unbeaten streak to 6-0 when he competes at XFC in Nashville later this year.
Nashville MMA’s Kenny Degenhardt took Walker MMA’s John Akers to submission school in the co-headliner, needing just 1:34 to sink in a fight-ending Rear-Naked Choke.
Also on the card were two amateur title bouts that saw Team Gravity’s Geoff Crenshaw retain his RFC Welterweight Title with a first round knockout of Tony Davis, and Nashville MMA’s Steven Coble take home the RFC Featherweight Title with a first round submission (Armbar) of Cody Harris.
