Assuncao(right) facing off against Ross Pearson

It was announced today that UFC veteran Junior Assuncao (13-5) has signed a multi-fight deal with Legacy Fighting Championship, the featherweight fighter is likely to make his debut at LFC 12 but an opponent is yet to be announced.

The news of the Assuncao signing has been officially announced on the Legacy Fighting Championship website.

Along with Junior’s debut, LFC 12 will also feature a match-up between Robert Drysdale and Isaac Villanueva. We can also expect to see MMA veteran Jay Hieron fighting at the event which takes place on July 13th at Houston’s Arena Theater. The main card for the event will air on HDNet.

BJJ black belt Assuncao last competed for the Ultimate Fighting Championship and was defeated by British fighter Ross Pearson. The fight took place in December 2011 at UFC 141 where Junior lost via decision and was later released by the promotion. That loss snapped a seven fight win streak for Assuncao who defeated Eddie Yagin prior to the Pearson loss at UFC 135. The six straight victories that came before the win over Yagin were built up on the regional circuit while fighting for various MMA promotions across the U.S and Brazil.

The 30-year-old will now have the opportunity to bounce back from his loss and hopefully begin his multi-fight LFC deal with a win. Make sure you stay tuned to ProMMANow (www.prommanow.com) for fight announcements and more information as it becomes available.
