The UFC is wasting no time putting the UFC 148 card together as they have announced several fights for the event slated for July 7th, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Today it was announced that former middleweight contender Demian Maia will make his welterweight debut against Dong Hyun Kim on this event.

Also, middleweights Riki Fukuda and Constantinos Philippou will do battle to try and solidify themselves in the division. The event will be headlined by the UFC bantamweight title fight with Dominick Cruz looking to defend his title against Urijah Faber for the second time.

Demian Maia(15-4) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to prospect Chris Weidman at the UFC on FOX 2 event earlier this year. Maia has gone (3-2) since fighting and losing his title fight against Anderson Silva back in 2010.

The submission specialist has become more well rounded over the years, but really seemed to be lacking in the cardio department in his last outing. This fight against Kim will be his first bout as a welterweight.

Dong Hyun Kim(15-1-1, 1NC) is coming off a unanimous decision win against Sean Pierson back at UFC 141. That was Kim’s first fight since getting knocked out and suffering his only defeat against current UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit. The judoka has six wins inside the octagon with almost all of them coming via unanimous decision.

Riki Fukuda(18-5) is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win against former WEC light heavyweight champion Steve Cantwell at UFC 144. Fukuda is currently (1-1) inside the octagon, but many felt he won his UFC debut against Nick Ring although the judges ruled otherwise. Fukuda is a product of the DEEP promotion where most of his fights prior to the UFC took place.

Constantinos Philippou(10-2, 1NC) is coming off a unanimous decision win over TUF winner Court McGee at UFC on FX 1 event. Philippou was the underdog in that fight but used superb takedown defense and nice combinations to take the fight. Philippou has won three consecutive fights since losing his UFC debut to Nick Catone at UFC 128.

The tentative UFC 148 fight card is below:

  • Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber
  • Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin
  • Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le
  • Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch
  • Renan Barao vs. Jeff Hougland
  • Demian Maia vs. Dong Hyun Kim
  • Riki Fukuda vs. Constantinos Philippou
