LAS VEGAS — Lion Fight: Battle in the Desert 5 took place Saturday night at the Joint at The Hard Rock in Las Vegas. The main event saw WBC Interim World Muay Thai Light Heavyweight Champion Joe Schilling (12-2, 10 KOs) get taken out in the first round by undefeated contender Simon Marcus (23-0, 18 KOs) in a non-title bout. Marcus may not have gotten the title but took home Schilling’s entire purse in a rare “winner take all” match.
Also, WBC International Middleweight champion Chaz Mulkey (7-5, 3 KOs) lost a unanimous decision to two-time world champion Gregory Choplin (60-9, 22 KOs), and Muay Thai legend Phanuwat “Coke” Chunhawat (146-25, 24 KOs) lost a unanimous decision to rising challenger Matt Embree (20-3) for the vacant WBC international lightweight championship.
