The only good thing about “Circle of Pain” is Dean Cain. You remember Dean Cain, right? He played Clark Kent in the “Lois and Clark” television series. Well, he’s one of the few people in “Circle of Pain” who plays a believable character.

Cain plays Wyatt, a former fighter who was paralyzed in a sparring accident with his friend Dalton Hunt, who is the star of the movie, played by actor Tony Schiena.

Cain’s character is confined to a wheelchair throughout the movie, and he does a good job and lends credibility to an otherwise horrific movie.

“Circle of Pain” is filled with MMA personalities such as Kimbo Slice, Roger Huerta, Heath Herring, Frank Mir, and Miguel Torres.

Herring co-stars in the movie as a fighter named Colin “The Brick” Wahle, who is the RFC champion.

Dalton Hunt is a retired fighter who finds out he has one fight left on his contract from RFC promoter Victoria Roulan, played by actress Bai Ling.

Victoria Roulan’s father used to run the RFC but when she took over she wants Hunt to come out of retirement to fight the current champion Colin Wahle (Herring).

Dalton Hunt retired after he accidentally paralyzed his best friend Wyatt (Dean Cain). Wyatt had been wanting him to fight again but he wouldn’t, not until the RFC promoter vixen kicked his estranged wife and kid out of their home in an effort to force him to finish out the last fight on a defunct contract.

The script alone does not seem horrible, it’s just the acting and some of the production that goes with it, but this is definitely a B movie that would not play at the theatres. I have no idea if this movie played at theatres. If it did, and you paid to see it, I’m damn sorry.

Bai Ling is the anorexic RFC promoter who can’t smoke enough. In practically every scene she is trying to look sexy smoking a long cigarette.

Frank Mir happens to be walking in a parking lot just as the champion Colin “The Brick” Wahle (Herring) is coming out of the gym. Mir’s character calls him a punk or something of the sort and Wahle knocks him out cold. That’s the extent of Mir’s appearance in the movie, thank goodness.

That particular scene was probably the worst in the movie. Frank Mir’s a great fighter and a nice guy, but sorry Frank, that scene was atrocious.

To train for his fight against Wahle, Dalton enlists the help of a trainer who is a cowboy. His first training lesson consists of going to a bar and picking a fight with Kimbo.

Kimbo actually does a pretty good job. His character (a pro football player who wears Hitman and Tapout T-Shirts) is fairly believable.

All in all, words that come to mind when describing this movie are: Cheesy and Campy. If you are a big MMA fan, it is kind of cool seeing some pro fighters in a movie, but other than that it offers very little.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being best, I rate “Circle of Pain” a 3.
