2009 Wrestling World Team Trials results

This past weekend the United States World Team Trials for wrestling took place in Council bluffs, Iowa. Both of the Olympic styles, Freestyle and Greco-Roman, were represented.

The winners will get the opportunity to represent their country in the 2009 World Wrestling Championships in Herning, Denmark. A victory there would mean the first World Championships victory for the United States since Bill Zadick and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto conqueror Joe Warren accomplished the feat in 2006.

The style of the trials tournament is a bit interesting. First, there is a Challengers Tournament and the winners of that tournament get a shot at the US Nationals Champion (which is normally determined only a few months prior) in a best of three match showdown. The format leads to many upsets and first time victors.

M-1 Challenge back to Kansas City on June 5

We at PRO MMA ( are always on the look out for MMA’s up-and-coming talent, potential future stars of tomorrow. A couple of weeks ago we introduced you to one such heavyweight prospect by the name of Liron Wilson (4-2) and we talked with him the day prior to his fight at King of the Cage.

Wilson fought Jason Bedker at KOTC: EL LOBO on May 23rd in Colorado and walked away with an armbar submission victory just 1:09 into round one. A few days following the bout, Wilson received the short notice offer to fight on the June 5th card at the M-1 CHALLENGE event in Kansas City, Missouri.

Because Wilson’s victory came so quickly and he came out of the May 23rd fight unscathed, he jumped at the prospect of fighting at the June 5th M-1 CHALLENGE event. Wilson will be representing Team Turkey as they take on the World Team and his opponent will be Michael Kitta.

Overturned decision gives USA Team East 5-0 shutout of host Team Bulgaria at the M-1 Challenge

PRO MMA ( was notifed early this morning of the round two results of the M-1 CHALLENGE which took place Saturday, March 28, in Bourgas, Bulgaria. There was some controversy as instant replay was used to overturn one of the decisions after an appeal was filed.

When former NFL running back Herbert “Whisper” Goodman left the Mladhost Sports Hall in Bourgas on Saturday night, he did so under the impression that he had suffered his sixth career loss. However, Goodman was informed a few short hours later by M-1 Challenge officials that the decision had been overturned and that he had recorded his ninth career victory courtesy of a second round knockout over ex-UFC veteran Jordan Radev.
