UFC veterans Tim Sylvia and Houston Alexander return to action tonight at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa as part of “Adrenaline MMA IV.” Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia (24-6) takes on Jason Riley (6-1) in the main event. This will be Sylvia’s first fight since his KO loss to pro boxer Ray Mercer.

“Bellator V” lightweight semi-finals take place in Dayton, Ohio on May 1

Eddie Alvarez will compete in the lightweight semi-finals at Bellator V

Bellator Fighting Championships’ twelve week tournament series arrives at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio on Friday, May 1, 2009 for “Bellator V” and as is standard procedure for each Bellator event, will air on ESPN Deportes the following day.

“Bellator V” will feature the first round of semi-finals with a $50,000 purse for each winner and will produce two lightweights to compete in the Bellator World Championship finals in June.

Bellator’s CEO Bjorn Rebney commented on the unique opportunity these fighters have, “At Bellator, each tournament fighter has their own destiny in their hands and at the Hara Arena two fighters will get the chance to advance to the Bellator Fighting Championships finals.”

Tara LaRosa makes successful return to action at Extreme Challenge: War at the Shore on Jan. 23 in Atlantic City, NJ (full results)

The world’s number one ranked female MMA fighter, Tara LaRosa made a successful return to action tonight at Extreme Challenge: War at the Shore in Atlantic City, New Jersey following a fourteen month layoff. LaRosa (16-1) battled Alexis Davis (6-2) in a very competitive match that saw the fight dead even going into the third round.

Davis was clearly not intimidated by LaRosa’s ranking or status and came out strong in every round. Both ladies are four-stripe purple belts and very highly skilled on the ground. LaRosa dropped Davis in round one with a big right but Davis was able to recover and attempted an omoplata and an armbar.

In round two Davis came out very aggressive and got LaRosa to the ground where she locked in a tight triangle. LaRosa’s patience and experience allowed her to remain calm until she finally escaped but then Davis immediately transitioned to an armbar and the bell sounds.
