Invicta FC 2: Sarah D’ Alelio replaces an injured Kelly Kobold, will face Vanessa Porto

Submission specialist Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio (5-2) of San Jose, Calif. will replace injured Kelly Kobold in a bantamweight (135 pound) matchup against streaking superstar Vanessa Porto (14-4) of Sao Paulo, Brazil on the main card at the Invicta FC 2: Baszler vs. McMann all-women’s professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. on Sat., July 28.

Mann Talk: why I disagree with Dr. Benjamin

Every once in a while, when I’m trolling the around blogs, I come across Dr. Johnny Benjamin’s column over on MMAJunkie. Normally, I either gloss over the article or skip it all together — a medical professional who says there is room for the neck to recoil in a Thai plum does not pique my interest. However, this week’s column sucked me in like a Billy Mays commercial.

I have long been a supporter of the ladies fighting five-minute rounds just like the men. To me, fights like Kelly Kobald vs. Gina Carano almost demand the extra time. Since I have yet to hear a credible argument against it, I figured I would peruse the Doc’s little dissenting article. Basically I was thinking “a noted combat-sports specialist” would be able to give a reasonable explanation. I was wrong.

Carano vs. Cyborg finally going to happen

The most anticipated matchup in women’s MMA to date has finally been signed. Strikeforce officially announced Gina “Conviction” Carano, unquestionably the most popular female mixed martial artist and “the face of women’s MMA”, will square off against Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos at an upcoming Strikeforce event slated for August 15th.

The Santos/Carano matchup will take women’s MMA one giant step closer to mainstream acceptance, marking the first time a women’s MMA fight will be featured as a main event for a top-tier and highly televised promotion such as Strikeforce.

Considered by many to be the number 2 female fighter behind Carano, Cristiane Santos (7-1) is the wife of fellow Chute Box Academy and Strikeforce fighter Evangelista Santos, and both share the “Cyborg” nick-name. Cristiane is currently riding a 7 fight win streak with 5 of those wins coming by (T)KO.

In a devastating turn of events Ken Shamrock will not be fighting tonight after receiving a cut over his eye this afternoon that needed six stitches.  Although Shamrock definitely wanted to fight and was visibly upset, the doctors would not allow him.

Even though it is a disappointing turn of events, MMA fans can take comfort in the fact that finally Kimbo will get to face a legitimate opponent as Seth Petruzelli steps in the ring to take the place of the injured Shamrock.

Gina Carano gets naked

It’s what the whole MMA world has waited for and what guys all over the nation have envisioned in their minds ever since the buxom brunette made her first appearance in the ring back in 2006. Yes, Gina Carano got naked. After tipping the scales at 142.75 lbs., Carano disrobed hoping the shorts and miniskirt she was wearing would bring her weight down to the negotiated fighting weight of 140 lbs. On her third attempt at the scales, the lack of clothes brought Carano’s weight down to 141 lbs. which was acceptable and also the same weight her opponent, Kelly Kobold weighed in at. One pound over the weight limit is allowed as long as it is not a title fight.
