As Johnathan Ivey’s Cage Fighting Championships 2 draws closer to bringing mixed martial arts action to the MidTN Expo in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Aug. 19, Pro MMA Now’s interviews with the fighters continues. In this fighter spotlight we talk with Nashville’s Desean Wolf, a former Marine who will be facing John Scott in lightweight action.

Hi Desean, thanks for talking with us. How has training been going for your upcoming fight?

I’ve been training a lot and in different areas.

You are facing John Scott, how much do you know about him and what is your assessment of his skills?

I have only one piece of information on my opponent, and that is he is a grounder.

How do you see the fight playing out when you visualize it?

I see myself using speed to counter as much as I can, and capitalizing on little opportunities as I go.

Where do you train and who are some of the coaches/training partners helping you get ready for this fight?

I train with mostly my corner, Oliver. And anyone that’s really committed. The military taught me to lead, I see this world as no different.

When and why did you start training for MMA?

I started MMA around 17… But I’m no stranger to fights and training. I was a wrestling captain in high school, and grew up in a fairly rough part of town.

Aside from wrestling, do you have a competitive sports background?

My background is actually complex. I’m a gymnastics-dance instructor. I’m also a musician and producer. I joined the Marine Corps, did my time, and I’m committed to the wolf life style.

What are your goals in MMA?

My goal is to inspire the guys that think they are too small to take action. Or “no way I can do that”, and my personal favorite… “I can’t”. Hearing that and seeing it sparks something in me to go get it to show them how they can be just as good, or at least build confidence along the way. I want to be the guy that picks on the bullies for the guys that can’t.

Favorite striking technique?

Six-inch punch.

Favorite grappling technique?

Spider Guard triangle.

What’s life like for you outside of fighting?

Looks like being a gymnastics instructor and family man of a wife and three kids. A couple of family trips, boat rides, and free running (Par-kour).

Thanks for your time, any final words for the fans?

This is Tazz… Desean Wolf coming out of the Wolf Den… Just wanting to thank you guys. Some may know of me but most will not. Look into me, I’ve got my fingers into everything, just looking for fans. #WolfOut
