The injuries keep mounting up for UFC champions as the UFC announced today that Jose Aldo has had to withdraw from his UFC 149 main event title fight against Erick Koch. The bout will be replaced by the UFC Interim Bantamweight title fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao which was originally slated for UFC 148. No timetable has been set for Aldo’s return to action.

UFC 149 is slated to take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome, in Calgary, Alberta, on July 21st.

Faber (26-5) has won three of his last four bouts with the only defeat coming against the current champion Dominick Cruz at UFC 132. Barao (28-1, 1NC) has been on a tear since losing his professional debut, winning 28 straight fights with one no-contest while being (3-0) in the UFC.

The UFC 149 will be receiving another bout shortly with the Shogun Rua vs. Thiago Silva bout being scratched completely. We reported earlier this week that Shogun Rua has been moved to the main event of the UFC on FOX 4 event to face Brandon Vera.
