Arthur Ashe Courage Award Winner Dewey Bozella

Darren McFarland, Brad Hopkins, Chris Pappas and Ed Clay were back in the 102.5 studio Thursday for the First Quarter’s MMA Hour (yes, we used to call this the Round One MMA Radio Show here — from henceforth, just know it will be called the First Quarter MMA Hour because that’s what it is).

Today’s guest received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2011 ESPY’s. His name is Dewey Bozella, he is 52-years-old and he made his professional boxing debut on Oct. 15 on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Just the fact that Mr. Bozella made his pro debut at 52 is a big deal, but what makes it an even bigger deal is the fact Mr. Bozella spent 26 years in prison for a murder he did not commit and it was in prison where he fell in love with and began boxing as an amateur and dreamt that one day he could fight professionally. That dream came true for him last month. If you have not heard this man’s story, it is not to be missed.

In addition to talking with Bozella, the guys recapped UFC 137, previewed this weekend’s upcoming UFC 138 and talked about next week’s UFC on FOX card.
