Dustin Jacoby vs. Clifford Starks

Round 3 – (missed rounds one and two) Starks gets a takedown, his third of the fight. Starks inside full guard. Jacoby eating some shots but is also striking off his back with heels trikes and short punches. Starks staying busy enough not to get stood up but not doing any real damage. Starks passes to side control. Jacoby looking for a kimura as Starks moves to half guard. Jacoby’s coach was giving him an ear full between rounds. Still going for the kimura but Starks was never in any real danger. Starks rides it out, opens up a little before the bell. Starks should get the decision easy. Starks took this fight on about five days notice.

Chris Camozzi vs. Francis Carmont

Round 1 – Camozzi has some great ink. This is Carmont’s UFC debut. Leg kick Camozzi. Carmont gives one back on the inside. Right hook from Camozzi is mostly blocked and he ends up on his back as Carmont takes him down and is on top in half guard. GSP is in Carmont’s corner. Camozzi gets to his feet, takes a knee, gets a body lock on Carmont as they jockey for position. Knee from Carmont, still clinched. Carmozzi pushing him against the cage. Knees from both, right hand from Carmont, body kick. Left straight hand from Camozzi as he initiates the clinch. Knee from Carmont and grabs a half collar tie. Carmont drops levels for a single. Knee from Carmont but Camozzi stands firm. They separate. Insdie leg kick from Carmont. Leg kick and a right hand from Camozzi misses. Knee from Camozzi as he pushes Carmont to the cage and grabs a single. Uppercut from Camozzi. Carmont reverses position, leaning on Camozzi. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 Carmont.

Round 2 – Right hand from Carmont scores. They clinch up and Camozzi pushes him to the cage. Carmont tries to turn him around but Camozzi gets the advantage, tries to drop levels. Eats a knee, another one, another. Camozzi misses and uppercut, throws an elbow as he leans on Carmont against the cage. Jumping knees from Carmont. Carmont stalking. Grabs a half collar and gives Camozzi two jumping knees. Carmont reminds me of Anderson Silva  a little, his style. Carmont drops levels, picks Camozzi up high and slams him like a pro wrestler on his upperback/neck. Very impressive. A real body slam is what that was… just like a pro wrestler. Carmont hovers over Camozzi and lands some big punches. He lets Camozzi up but drops him with a big right-left combo. Camozzi tries to grab a leg but Carmont makes him turtle up from punches. Camozzi gets to his feet and his face is a bloody mess. Carmont lands a big right at the bell. 10-9 Carmont.

Round 3 – Carmont blocks Camozzi’s initial attack then fires back with punches. Carmont grabs a half collar and lands some nice knees, body kick, leg kick as they square up. Camozzi with a leg kick. Body lock from Camozzi as he pushes Carmont to the cage. Ref calls for work as Camozzi rests. Camozzi’s corner told him it’s now or never basically, between rounds. They trade leg kicks. Another one from Camozzi. Left hand from Camozzi. Knee from Carmont. Puts Camozzi on his back, lands some right hands. Camozzi has Carmont inside full guard. Carmont stands over Camozzi. Kicks Camozzi’s thigh, now the other thigh. Ref lets Camozzi up, he attacks, lands a left, less than a minute to go and he’s pushing on Carmont. Camozzi’s corner yells he needs to strike. Leg kick from Camozzi, Carmont with a leg kick. Camozzi with a flying knee. With ten seconds left Camozzi drops down with a kimura attempt, it’s very very deep but, he is mounted by Carmont, has no control over Carmont’s body and time is out. Ramsey Nijem vs. Danny Downes

Round 1 – Ramsey lands a nice punch combo and pushes Danny to the cage, gets the takedown. Downes tries to get up, eats a punch and Ramsey takes his back. Downes is up but Ramsey hanging on, they separate and Ramsey lands another nice punch combo. Ramsey with another takedown immediately, keeping the pressure on. Ramsey on top in half guard. Downes gets to his feet, eats a knee to the face as Ramsey pushes him to the cage and gets another takedown. Downes gets to his feet. Knee to the thigh from Ramsey, more knees to the thighs and he drags Danny down again. Ramsey takes his back with a body lock. Ramsey is punching him and locks on the choke palm to palm. Changes it to a regular rear naked. Downes is free and they trade punches. Ramsey lands a nice jab, another, he shoots. Pushes Downes to the cage. Ramsey puts Danny down and takes his back again. Twenty seconds left. Ramsey lands some punches before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Ramsey.

Round 2 – Left hook from Ramsey. Straight right from Danny. Ramsey lands a punch combo and a leg kick, shoots. Stuffed. Danny has an upside down triangle. Danny landing right hands to the midsection. Ramsey gets his head out. Blood coming down Danny’s shin that started as soon as the fight started. Ramsey puts him on his back and is in half and now full guard. Ramsey stands up, moves to side control and full mount. He lands some nice punches, Danny gives up his back and Ramsey locks on the choke. Danny gives a thumbs up and gets free but Ramsey still has his back. Ramsey locks on armlock, gets his back, but Danny gets up to his feet. Ramsey still holding on, drags him back down. Coach John Hackleman is in Ramsey’s corner giving instruction. Ramsey has Danny’s back punching him in the ribs. Elbows from Ramsey. He has one hook in, goes for the choke again but it’s over the chin. It looks like Danny has peed his pants — could be sweat. Ramsey has a body lock with his legs and time runs out. That body lock with his legs may have squeezed some pee out? eh? 10-9 Ramsey.

Round 3 – Danny’s face is busted up. Ramsey grabs the back of his head and lands several punches. Danny fires back. Ramsey shoots, puts him down. Ramsey postures up with punches. Ramsey just all over Danny, lands a couple elbows to the side of his head. He is literally smothering Danny. Ramsey has his back with one hook in and landing punches to the side of the head, hammerfists, you can hear them pounding. Ramsey is just too strong and powerful. Lots of heart from Downes but he’s taking a beating. Ramsey is making him look like an amateur. More punches from Ramsey with 1:20 left. Ramsey drags him  back down, has a body lock, flattens him out face down and starts landing punches to the head. Fifty seconds left and Danny is still surviving but doing nothing offensively. Ramsey tries for the choke again, no go. Goes back to punching him as time runs out. A pure beating by Ramsey Nijem. Danny can barely get up. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-8 and the fight 30-26.

Brandon Vera vs. Eliot Marhsall

Round 1 – Leg kick from Vera. One two punch, body kick. Kick to the knee from Vera. Marshall checks a leg kick, left hook. Body kick from Vera, jumping knee and presses Marshall to the cage. Knee from Vera to the thigh. Knee from Marshall. Jockeying for position against the cage. Vera backs out. Marshall lands several right hands as he holds Vera behind the head with the other hand. Vera looked rocked and shoots, presses Marshall to the cage. Knee from Vera, again to the thigh. Body shots from Marshall. Ref separates them. Vera ducks a left hook. Inside leg kick from Vera. Outside leg kick. Head kick from Marshall blocked. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Vera.

Round 2 – Greg Jackson tells Marshall to keep punching and striking. Side kick to the knee from Vera. Leg kick, inside leg kick. They tie up, Vera slings him off, misses a kick. They tie up and Marshall presses him to the cage. It has become quite the fad for fighters to throw those little kicks to the knees and shin. Have you ever seen one do any damage? Me either but everyone does them — and it all seems to have started after Anderson Silva started doing it. Vera puts Marshall on his back. Marshall with a half butterfly. Lloyd Irvin right in front of Vera giving instruction. Elbows from Vera. Marshall gets up quickly, eats a knee. Knee to the thigh from Vera. Knees from both guys and Kim Winslow warns them to pick up the action. They jockey for position and Kim separates them. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 Vera.

Round 3 – Bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz along with Lloyd Irvin are in Vera’s corner telling him to pick up the kick ratio. Side kick to the knee from Vera. Inside leg kick. Marshall rocks Vera with a big right and catches him one more time as Vera goes down. Marshall pours on the heat trying to finish. Vera survives and gets up. He gets rocked again with a one two and Vera clinches him up, pushes him to the cage. Marshall is letting him recover. They trade knees to the thighs. Marshall is letting him recover too much. Vera leaning on him resting. Marshall gets free and squares up. Marshall grabs a body lock and drags Vera down. Marshall has one hook in with 90 seconds left. Marshall looking for the choke but Vera using wrist control. One minute left. Marshall switches to an armbar, Vera defends and Marshall changes arms. Irvin right there telling Vera what to do. Vera breaks free, lands some elbows. Vera’s arm may be hurt. Great freaking fight guys. Marshall almost KO’d him with the big right hand. Tyson Griffin vs. Bart Palaszewski

Round 1 – Big leg kick from Bart. Body shot from Tyson. Big leg kick from Tyson. Griffin has a little flab going on. He came in heavy. Leg kick from Tyson. Inside leg kick from Griffin. Body shot from Griffin. Bart hurts Tyson with a couple of left hooks, he stumbles across the cage. With his back to the cage Bart unloads on him with about a 20 punch (it was actually 18 punches) combo until get goes down and out.

That is an enormous win for Palaszewski in his UFC debut. Bart thinks he broke both his hands. Replay shows him landing a huge right hook near the end of that combo that turned off the lights. Huge win for Bartimus!!!

Dennis Siver vs. Donald Cerrone

Round 1 – This is going to be a sick fight. They start trading immediately. High kick from Siver. They trade leg kicks. Front kick Siver. Leg kick Siver. Cerrone with a leg kick. Lands a head kick that buckles Siver to the ground. Siver bounces up and holds on tight, pressing Cerrone to the cage. He almost went out cold. Siver leaning on Cerrone. Greg Jackson just said, “Go get some Donald Cerrone!” Siver is in trouble. He got tagged with a head kick, goes down and Cerrone jumps on his back and chokes him out. Wow! Cerrone’s sixth win in a row, undefeated 4-0 in UFC. Replay shows the first time he hurt Siver started with a inside leg kick, used the same leg right after with a head kick. Awesome performance from Cerrone who said before the fight that Siver just had flashy ineffective striking and he was going to show everyone what real kickboxing was all about. And he did! As great a striker as Cerrone is, his first TKO win was in his last UFC fight against Charles Oliveira.

Hatsu Hioko vs. George Roop

Round 1 – High kick from Hioki then a left hook. High kick from Roop, front kick, neither land. Roop lands a nice right. Leg kick. Left from Roop lands low. Time given to Hioki to recover. Hioki gets the better of an exchange, lands a leg kick.  They tie up as Hioki looks to drop levels. They struggle in the clinch, Roop turns Hioki around, Hioki reverses, lands some knees. Hioki looking for the trip. Roop defending well. Knee from Hioki to the body. Hioki tries for the trip but can’t get it. Hioki takes Roop’s back while standing. Roop gets out of it and they’re right back to the clinch. Hioki finally puts him on his back, lands in side control. That was cool because it wasn’t the most exciting thing to watch as they jockeyed for position but it played out like it was meant to. They scramble on the ground, then back to the feet. Roop gave him an accidental snuggie pulling Hioki’s underwear up. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 Hioki.

Round 2 – Left from Hioki, then a right. Roop fires back. He misses a front kick. Misses a punch, kick combo. Body shot from Roop, lands a head kick but not much on it. Counter left from Hioki. Clinches up and takes Roop down and lands in full mount. Hioki moves to side mount. Hioki tries to mount, Roop blocks it momentarily but Hioki gets it. Lands an elbow, again, again. Hioki has his legs locked in a triangle under Roop, controlling the full mount. Now Hioki has regular butterfly type hooks from mount. It controls Roop’s legs so he can’t bend his legs to get up. Roop with some body shots from off his back. Hioki postures up with shots but Roop lands a big up kick that knocks Hioki back and allows Roop to get up to his feet. Roop tells him to come on multiple times and chases him down with punches, time runs out. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 Hioki.

Round 3 – Roop got the takedown immediately but Hioki gets up immediately. Flying knee misses from Roop. Not sure if Roop let Hioki up while ago or he just got up on his own. Hioki shoots, stuffed. Roop shoots, stuffed, pushes him to the cage. Roop gets a body lock and reverses position pushing Hioki’s back to the cage. Foot stomp from Roop. Right hand from Roop from the clinch. Ref separates them. Leg kick from Roop is checked. Roop gets a fairly easy takedown with less than two minutes to go. Hioki making some moves from the bottom, trying to set something up. Less than a minute to go. Hioki uses a rubber guard now back to full guard. Hioki hangs on to prevent damage. Roop breaks out with some punches to bring an anticlimactic ending to this three round hug fest. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Roop and the fight 29-28 for Hioki.

Hioki said Roop was stronger than expected. He also said, “Although we are in a tough situation, Japanese MMA is not dead. It’s time to change.”

Scott Jorgenson vs. Jeff Curran

Round 1 – Leg kick and side kick from Curran, right hand. Left hand from Jorgensen. Curran gets spun around, then put on his back. Body shots from Jorgensen. Curran punches from off his back. Elbows off his back. Right hand from Jorgensen, short little punches. Curran’s guard is very good and is staying very tight. Right hand from Jorgensen, again. Jorgensen stands up, moves back inside guard. Ninety seconds left in the round. Curran with left hands off his back. Curran gets up, gets put right back down. Kim Winslow stands them up. Big right from Curran, uppercut. Jorgen catches a leg and puts Curran on his back. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Jorgensen.

Round 2 – Joe Warren giving Jorgensen advice in between rounds. Nice jab from Jorgensen. Leg kick from Curran, he shoots, stuffed, knee from Jorgensen, lands a couple more as he holds him in a front  headlock. Jorgensen pushes him to the cage still holding the front headlock. Knee to the body as Curran pulls his head out and stands upright. Jorgensen catches a knee and dumps Curran on his back. Curran is up. He drops down with a guillotine attempt, they roll and Jorgensen is free and up and has that front headlock again. Curran gets free and they start boxing. Knee to the body from Curran. Jorgensen trips Curran to his back. Body shot from Jorgensen. One minute to go. Curran gets to his knees as Jorgensen holds a single on his knees too. Jorgensen picks him off the ground as Curran punches his ribs. Close round. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Jorgensen.

Round 3 – Warren tells Jorgensen, “No one can stop you.” Curran’s corner said, “Submit him right now.” One two from Curran. Right hand from Jorgensen. Left jab from Jorgensen. Leg kick from Jorgensen. Uppercut, head kick from Curran. Leg kick from Jorgensen. Nice jab from Jorgensen. Nice counter right and leg kick from Curran. Leg kick Jorgensen. Curran poking his chin out trying to bait him. Leg kick Jorgensen, counter right from Curran. Uppercut from Curran. Big leg kick. Curran’s nose is dripping blood. They tie up, knees from Jorgensen to the body. Jockying for position. Body lock by Curran. Jorgensen with underhooks and knees to the body. Curran breaks free and they square up. Left hand from Curran. Jab from Jorgensen. One two from Curran. Left hook. Leg kick from Jorgensen, jab. Thirty seconds to go. Right hand from Jorgensen. Roy Nelson vs. Mirko Cro Cop

Round 1 – Oh snap. Roy almost has a damn six pack. Lookin good Big Country. He swings and misses.  Again. Mirko moving well, getting out of the way. Roy puts him on his back. Cro Cop gets full guard. Cro Cop closes guard. Roy stands, trying to break the guard, but not happening. Elbow from Roy. Righ hand from Roy. Body shot. This kind of think could tire Roy out. Cro Cop gets up, lands a left and Roy shows a mouse under his eye immediately. Body kick and a left from Cro Cop. Big overhand right from Roy and Mirko lands a uppercut. Big uppercut from Mirko. Left hand from Mirko. Cro Cop got clipped and looks a little hurt. Quick left from Cro Cop. He keeps slipping on the logos on the canvas. Body kick from Mirko. He’s also circling into Roy’s power hand. Close round I think. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 Nelson.

Round 2 – Roy shoots, stuffed. He lands a big overhand right but slips to the ground. Mirko comes back and throws about twenty punches as Roy covers up. Mirko landed a huge uppercut and his face is a bloody mess. Cro Cop landed a big body shot in that flurry too. Wow. Big action. Roy swings big and misses. Roy following Mirko around the cage over and over. Head kick from Mirko is blocked. Roy swings and they tie up. Nelson’s nose is bloody. He pushes Cro Cop to the cage. Working for the single. He gets Mirko on his back. Moves to side control. This is favorite position. Looking for that crucifix. One minute to go. He gets the crucifix and starts landing left hands with just under thirty seconds left. Mirko can not defend he’s trapped but only ten seconds left and that’s it. Wow, Roy came back from a terrible start and I think won the round 10-9.

Round 3 – Body kick from Roy. Roy keeps coming forward. Lands a big right hand and Mirko buckles. Roy shoots, stuffed. He hurts Cro Cop with another punch. Cro Cop goes down and covers up as Cro Cop takes his back and pounds him out. He gave that fight away. Very sad. They hug. Roy rubs his belly. It was a straight left that started it all. Looked like he just lost heart.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Roy Nelson def. Mirko Cro Cop by TKO (punches) Rd 3 (1:30)

Cro Cop confirmed that this was his last fight. The legend hangs it up and Nelson picks up a big win. Roy calls out the winner of Velasquez-Dos Santos.  Sorry Roy, not ready for that one yet.

Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo

Round 1 – Mitrione with his hands low. Dancing in front of Kongo. Mitrione taunting, trying to get him to open up. A few boos start which is silly at this point. All it takes is one punch with these big boys. One two from Kong and he misses. Mitrione swings, misses, they tie up and he pushes Mitrione to the cage. Knee to the thigh. Knee from Mitrione. Again. Knee from Kongo to the thigh, he has underhooks. Ref calls for work. Boos and ref separates them. Mitrione with hands down, coming forward, swings and misses. He smiles. Leg kick Kongo. Kongo seems timid. Leg kick Kongo. Boos. Lots of feints from Mitrione. He catches a kick from Kongo and sweeps him to the ground. Nice feints from Mitrione. Kongo swings at the bell. Boos as the round ends. 10-9 Mitrione for the leg sweep I guess. Not much action.

Round 2 – It’s strange to see a veteran like Kongo not opening up against Mitrione. Leg kick from Kongo and Mitrione lands a left. Two leg kicks from Kongo and he ducks Mitrione’s punch. Inside leg kick from Mitrione. Two leg kicks from Kongo. Right hook from Kongo. Leg kick Mitrione. Kongo leg kick. Mitrione checks one. Body shot from Kongo Mitrione fires back. Check kick from Mitrione, he misses a big hook. Mitrione showing great punch defense. Mitrione the one moving forward. And checks a kick. Kongo doesn’t like it when he checks those kicks. Mitrione still moving forward. Throwing feints, leg kick. Leg kick Kongo. Left jab Kongo. Left hand from Mitrione. Checks a kick. Uppercut from Mitrione puts Kongo on the run. Great punch defense from Mitrione. Kongo slips one in though. Leg kick Mitrione. Leg kick Kongo. Kongo slips a right hand. Mitrione chases with punches, lands a right. 10-9 Mitrione.

Round 3 – Mitrione’s corner told him this is not a sparring match. That was my exact thoughts. Melanson told him that. Mitrione attacks with punches, Kongo lands a body shot, grabs a single. Mitrione grabs his neck and gets slammed on his back. Mitrione looking for a kimura it seems. Gets to his knees. Mitrione goes for a leg. He turtles up as Kongo takes his back. Mitrione is up and has damage on his face from Kongo’s ground and pound. Mitrione is cut. Kongo with a body lock with 3 minutes left in this fight. Mitrione breathing hard in the clinch and Kongo puts him on his back. Body shots from Kongo. Two minutes. Body punch Kongo. Elbow to the body. Boos from the crowd. I think Mitrione showed him too much respect early in the fight. Kongo lands some hammerfists as he holds Mitrione down. Matt gets to one knee. He tries to roll for a leg. Back to his knees and he covers up. Kongo landing punches to the side of the head, more punches. Boos from the crowd as the bell sounds. Well, I don’t think anyone expected this fight to go like this, not that Kongo couldn’t win, but I think everyone expected more action. Like I said, I think Mitrione showed him too much respect. This was his first loss.

 Nick Diaz vs. BJ Penn

Round 1 – One thing is for sure. We won’t have to worry about a lack of action in this one. Nick is pacing back and forth before the fight starts… Buffer doing his thing. Oh my oh my. Left hand from Penn. Diaz clinches backs Penn to the cage, knees. Thai clinch from BJ knee. Right hand from BJ on the break. Jab from Diaz. Jab from Penn. Again. Jab from Diaz. Right from Diaz, big right from Diaz. Left counter from Penn, uppercut. Big body shot from Diaz. Chants of Diaz. Pen n takes him down with a single and they roll. Penn had his back for a second. Penn stands, tries to pass guard. Diaz eats a right. Diaz with two on one. Penn stands and Nick gets up. Penn has a front headlock, gives Nick some rabbit shots. Nick pressing him to the cage. Round 2 – Diaz taunting, eats a shot. Leg kick from Nick. Diaz presses him to the cage. Body shots from Diaz. Chants of BJ and Diaz in the crowd. Uppercut in the clinch from Diaz. Rabbit shots from both guys. Penn backs out, eats a jab. Diaz playing peek a boo and Penn lands some shots. Nice combo from Nick to the body too. Jab from Penn. Nice jab from Diaz. Has Penn on the move. Diaz pours it on with nice combos and Penn is slowing. This is a boxing match and it’s awesome. Body shots from Diaz in the clinch. Diaz drops levels. No go. Rabbit punches from Diaz. Diaz keeping the pressure on giving him no room to breathe. Penn’s in trouble as Nick pours one the combos over and over, walking Penn down. Two to the body, Penn is getting battered with pro boxing skills. Penn is on the run. Penn trying to cover up his bloody face. The Stockton slap is in full effect with 20 seconds to go. Round 3 – Nick’s ready to go. Body shot from Penn, a left. Diaz comes forward with combos, picking up where they left off. Penn tries to shoot, stuffed. Diaz presses him to the cage, two big lefts, here comes the pain. Penn’s face is a damn mess. Diaz right in his face right in the pocket, Penn backs up, two body shots, two right hooks. I cannot keep up with all the punches. Penn lands a counter, again. Penn still in there showing great heart. They are going at it. Nice right from Penn. Big right from Penn, a left. Just under three minutes to go. Big right from Nick lands behind the head. He throws his hands up taunting. They throwdown. Two to the body from Diaz, two to the face from Penn. Penn is not out. He lands some good ones on Nick. Nick hunting, right hand. Clinch, three punch combo. One minute to go and they are turning up the power now. Someon wants a KO. Penn blocks two head kicks. Ten seconds. Oh my god what a fight. What a freaking war. My god man. I want to see the punch count on this thing. Has to be astronomical. Diaz should have this round 10-9 and the fight.

Nick says, “Where you at George, where you at mother[expletive]?” Nick says to Rogan, “I don’t think George is hurt, I think he’s scared.”

B.J. Penn just told Joe Rogan (with his left eye swollen shut), “Nick’s the man. This will probably be the last time you see me in here Joe … I have a new daughter on the way and I can’t keep going home looking like this.”  He then confirmed he has retired. Two legends retire in one night. Wow.
