South Carlonia House passes MMA bill

South Carolina's State Flag

South Carolina’s House of Representatives voted unanimously to pass a bill that would lead towards the sport of MMA being sanctioned in the state.

A 57-0 vote sent the bill to South Carolina’s Senate for its final phase. However, fans in South Carolina shouldn’t be popping champagne corks any time soon.

Originally, the bill found its way to South Carolina’s House floor toward the end of the state’s legislative session last year. Reports indicate that it may be close to a year before an MMA event is held in the Palmetto State.

UFC implements new rules for cutmen and corners

Kru Phill Nurse is the Vaseline Master

We here at PRO MMA (http://promma.info) told you about the controversy surrounding UFC 94’s main event and Georges St. Pierre’s corner-man, Kru Phil Nurse, putting Vaseline on his back.

If you have been away from the Internet this past week then you have missed the fallout from that incident with the message boards, airwaves, and chat rooms filled with talk of grease, pre-fight oil baths, and rematches. The story continues to unfold as now the UFC has gotten involved and decided to implement some changes to the rules regarding a fighter’s corner while a bout is in progress.

According to new reports, the UFC has banned all corner-men from handling Vaseline used in between rounds to treat and prevent cuts on the fighters. Instead, the UFC will provide one cut man for each corner during the fight and the handling of the Vaseline will be his job. A maximum of two people are allowed to be inside the Octagon in a fighter’s corner between rounds (including the cut man).

UFC 94 main event is slippery situation

According to the Fight Network, B.J. Penn’s camp has filed a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission following his TKO loss to UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94 on Jan. 31st in Las Vegas.

The complaint revolves around allegations that St. Pierre’s corner-man applied Vaseline to GSP’s back between rounds.

A member of the NSAC noticed one of St. Pierre’s men applying the petroleum jelly and all hell broke loose. UFC President Dana White said at the post-fight press conference, “The guys from the athletic commission went up there and started screaming at them. Knocked the Vaseline and kicked the Vaseline out of the Octagon. Some Vaseline on a guy’s back didn’t change the outcome of that fight, but you don’t do it.”

Lou Neglia, former Martial Arts World Champion, film star, and owner of the Ring of Combat MMA promotion is bringing 10,000 kids involved with martial arts to march on New York’s capital on Wednesday.

Why are “karate kids” coming to the march? It seems Governor David Patterson, due to a 14 billion dollar deficit, has made a budget cut proposal that apparently is going to shut down a number of youth programs in the state.
