PRO MMA (promma.info) has learned that Jake Shields and Robbie Lawler will headline Strikeforce’s May show in Tacoma, WA. Shields had been set to face Joe Riggs on April 11th in San Jose, CA.

However, it’s believed that the Shields vs. Lawler middleweight main event was made in order to have a strong headliner to sell heading into Tacoma in May.

While no date for Strikeforce’s May show has been set, Miesha Tate stated in a recent interview that May 8th had been a possible date that she had heard been mentioned as well as sometime in June. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.

There has been no word on if Joe Riggs will remain on the April 11th card or not.

*Update – A few hours following this report, Dave Doyle at Yahoo! Sports reported that the bout between Shields and Lawler will be contested at 182 pounds. Doyle also stated that the venue for the May show will not be Tacoma, WA., instead STRIKEFORCE will most likely opt to move the event to a Midwest location.

Stay tuned to PRO MMA for more on this story as it continues to develop.

  1. As much as I respect and like Jake Shields, this is a huge step up for him, and Lawler is a monster puncher. Unless Shields gets this fight to the ground and fast, it may be a short night for him. Good news is, I get to go to this show live..LOL!
