Easton’s win over Beebe changed to “no decision” – UWC releases official statement

If you watched the Ultimate Warrior Challenge “UWC 7: Redemption” card this past weekend you were probably thinking the same thing I was, “How in the hell did Mike “The Hulk” Easton get the nod with a split decision over Chase Beebe in the main event?

After tremendous backlash the result has been changed to “no decision” by the state’s overseeing agency, the Virginia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Program. For now the bout will be recorded as a “no decision” until the commission completes an investigation that could, at best, lead to the outcome being changed to a no contest.

PROMMA.INFO received the following official statement today regarding the fight and the original ruling of a split decision win for Mike Easton:

UWC announces landmark 125-pound title fight

The Ultimate Warrior Challenge recently announced that John Dodson and Pat Runez would fight for the promotion’s inaugural flyweight title.

The Washington, DC based organization has been one of the most progressive companies when it comes to promoting the flyweight division. The UWC first featured the weight class in Feb. 2009, and on all their shows since.

John Dodson is a veteran of the Tapout reality show, and holds a 8-4 record in MMA. Due to his slight size the Greg Jackson product has often been forced to fight up in weight. This was the case in his UWC as he fought to a decision with current bantamweight champion Mike Easton. Despite controlling the fight with strikes the judges awarded the fight to Easton. Since then Dodson has gone 2-0 with impressive victories over flyweights Jose Villirisco and Jose Lujan.

Phil Davis post UWC 6 comments

At this last weekend’s “UWC 6: Capital Punishment” card, Phil Davis dominated veteran Terry Cohens from the top position en route to a first round TKO stoppage. After the victory that moved his professional record to 3-0, the former Nittany Lion national champion spoke to the media. PRO MMA (promma.info) staff writer Richard Mann was on the scene.

Despite dominating the fight from the outset, Davis said, “I didn’t really get a chance to settle into the fight.” When asked about the finish he said, “He [the referee] stopped it when he stopped it.” Davis credited Cohens’ durability for the prolonged barrage of punches, “I think the last time I got a TKO, I didn’t land as many clean punches. This time I landed a lot more clean punches.”
