XFC 7 creates history on Feb. 20 with first ever pro MMA event in Tennessee – results

It looks as though Xtreme Fighting Championship’s XFC 7: SCHOOL OF HARD KNOX  went off without a hitch last night as the first ever pro MMA event in Tennessee history. PRO MMA (promma.info) received the following press release this morning from the organization:

The first professional Mixed Martial Arts fight card ever allowed in the state of Tennessee, XFC 7: “School of Hard Knox” was history-making even before the first bell chimed. Taking place at Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, the promotion showcased some of the top emerging talent in the sport, including a pair of undefeated heavyweights, Chad Corvin and Scott Barrett, in the main event. And because of the fast fists and electrifying knockouts during the fight card, XFC 7 also made history by catapulting the careers of the next generation of MMA champions to the cusp of superstardom – and perhaps converting the state of Tennessee into MMA fans in the process.

Dan Barrera makes MMA return at XFC 7 in Knoxville, TN

We haven’t heard much from Daniel Barrera since his stint on The Ultimate Fighter 6. Like Chris Lytle, Barrera is a firefighter but he is also an instructor at SSF Submission Academy in Clarksville, TN.

Barrera lost to Ben Saunders at the Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale by decision in December of ’07. That was his first professional MMA fight. Since then, Barrera has reeled off two straight victories, the most recent was on October 3, 2008 at Showcase of Strength in Shepardsville, KY.

Barrera will be stepping back into the cage on February 20th in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he will face Robert “Iron Man” Thompson at Xtreme Fighting Championship’s XFC 7: RETRIBUTION. With the UFC scheduled to land in Nashville just two months later, MMA promotions are taking full advantage of the state’s legalization of the sport, which came in 2008.

by:  Doug Drexler

With the recent influx of crossover athletes migrating to the growing sport of MMA, some have been greeted with a level of skepticism while others have been accepted with open arms. Hardcore MMA fans celebrated former pro wrestler Brock Lesnar’s UFC debut defeat at the hands of Frank Mir, but have largely accepted boxers who have made the difficult transition to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.

On Friday, December 5, the sport of MMA will be introduced to a boxer the likes of which they have never seen before.  Chevelle Hallback was not only a boxing champion for four different organizations, but it might surprise you to find out Chevelle is a female.
