Steve Cantwell finished with “elusive” Stann, looks forward to Matyushenko at UFC 108

Photo: Sherdog - Steve Cantwell insists the "Cantwell vs. Stann saga" is over.

Former WEC light heavyweight champion Steve “The Robot” Cantwell (7-3) was a guest on Thursday night’s Cageside Beat, the official radio show of ProMMA.info. Cantwell, along with training partner Anthony Njokuani (who is fighting Chris Horodecki at this weekend’s WEC event), hung out with hosts Brian and Mike for about half the show and discussed a myriad of topics. One such topic was Brian Stann.

The first time Cantwell faced Stann was at WEC 26 back in 2007. Stann won a quick 0:41 TKO over Cantwell, giving “The Robot” his first professional loss… but their saga was far from over.

Cantwell got to return the favor when the two met again, a year later at WEC 35. This time it was Cantwell who scored a TKO (second round), and took Stann’s light heavyweight title.

Matyushenko, Ghosn, Major take home decision victories at “Call to Arms 1”

“Call To Arms 1” took place Saturday night May 16th at the Citizen’s Business Bank Arena in Los Angeles, California. In the main event, Affliction, UFC, and IFL veteran Vladamir “The Janitor” Matyushenko won a unanimous decision over Jason “The Punisher” Lambert in a light heavyweight showdown in Lambert’s first fight since being released from the UFC late last year.

Matyushenko controlled the majority of the action until the third round when Lambert scored a takedown and began scoring with significant ground and pound. For a moment it looked as though Lambert may get the TKO until Matyushenko reversed and then scored one final takedown himself to secure the decision.

Team Punishment veteran Tiki Ghosn took home his second unanimous decision in a row with a ground and pound gameplan over Brian Warren. Ex-pro wrestler Daniel Puder received a TKO gift package when his opponent, Jeff Ford, slipped on a high kick and injured his shoulder early into the fight. Matt Major also took home a unanimous decision over Jaime Fletcher.
