PRO MMA exclusive interview: Luke Rockhold

PRO MMA’s (promma.info) “Fast Eddie” Constantine caught up with Strikeforce middleweight and American Kickboxing Academy prospect; Luke Rockhold while at the Josh Thomson media day on Tuesday. Rockhold is coming off two straight victories in Strikeforce over Josh Neal and Nik Theotikos.

Rockhold will face Team Quest’s Buck Meredith on April 11th at the Strikeforce “Shamrock vs. Diaz” card. “Fast Eddie” grabbed a few words from the young 185 pounder prior to the pro practice at AKA.

PRO MMA: Luke, how has the training been going for the fight?
ROCKHOLD: Its going good. I’m training as hard as ever, at AKA we don’t mess around. Just doing everything that I have to do to win the fight.

Marcus Aurelio vs Chris Liguori headlines WCA: Pure Combat in Atlantic City on Feb. 6

The World Cagefighting Alliance (www.WCAfights.com) will hold their first fight card on Friday, Feb. 6, called “Pure Combat” in Atlantic City, New Jersey at Bally’s Hotel & Casino in the Boardwalk Hall Ballroom.

Babalu vs Sokoudjou set for Affliction

Despite being released by the UFC nearly two weeks ago, Remeau Thierry Sokoudjou will meet Renato “Babalu” Sobral in January at Afflcition: Day of Reckogning. “The African Assassin” failed to live up to expectations in the UFC, compiling a 1-2 record.

The DREAM organization appeared to be one organization that had been rumored to be interested in the Team Quest product’s services. While that may still be a possibility, Sokoudjou will first fight on the January 24 Affliction card against a red hot “Babalu.”

Sokoudjou back to Japan?

Looks like one of the latest fighters to hit the UFC chopping block may have found a home. Former Pride standout, Remeau Thierry Sokoudjou may soon be fighting for DREAM.

According to Franklin McNeil of ESPN’s MMA Live, the Japanese promotion DREAM is the frontrunner for the Team Quest trained “African Assassin”.

Sokoudjou was cut after dropping 2 of 3 fights in The Octagon, the latest at UFC 89 to Luis Cane. He was brought into the UFC with great anticipation after beating top 10 Light Heavyweight fighters, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona by KO in back to back fights.

Team Quest’s favorite son

Any child born into a family with siblings will feel some level of competition. Despite the fact they come from the same family, there will be a struggle to appear best in the parents’ eyes. In the case of Team Quest, Vinny Magalhaes did everything he could to impress, but still ended up in second place behind proverbial big brother Krzysztof Soszynski.

Back in September, news broke that Magalhaes was leaving Team Quest. It was reported that the split was caused by Magalhaes choosing to sign with Denaro Sports Marketing. At the time it seemed like a simple business dispute – the type that has become all too common in today’s MMA world.
