The UFC held a media conference call Tuesday for their upcoming UFC 161 card taking place Saturday, June 15, at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Light heavyweight headliners Dan Henderson and “Suga” Rashad Evans, along with heavyweight co-headliners Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Stipe Miocic participated in the call.
We reported that the original UFC 161 main event had been scratched when UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao was forced to withdraw from his bout against Eddie Wineland last week. The new main event will feature a light heavyweight bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson.
Australian heavyweight fighter Soa Palelei recently signed a four-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. At UFC 161 “The Hulk” is set to return to the octagon for the first time since UFC 79 back in December 2007, where he dropped a third round TKO loss against Eddie Sanchez. He will face American born Croatian fighter Stipe Miocic on June 15.
