ELITEXC STRIPS KJ NOONS OF LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE

Press Release:

Belt Taken Away For Refusing To Fight Nick Diaz

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 19, 2008) – KJ Noons of San Diego has been stripped of his EliteXC lightweight title. The announcement was made late Friday by EliteXC Head of Fight Operations, Jeremy Lappen.

The foremost reason EliteXC is taking this action, Lappen said, was due to Noons’ reluctance to defend against leading 160-pound contender Nick Diaz of Stockton, Calif.

“We are stripping KJ of his championship belt for refusing to defend against Diaz,’’ Lappen said. “It’s a very unfortunate situation but we cannot have belt-holders who refuse to fight the top contenders. We want champions who will fight anyone, anytime, anyplace. That’s the mentality all champions should have.

“I feel very bad for KJ because I like him a lot on a personal level and have always thought he could be a big star. He’s charismatic, has a very exciting fighting style and is a top level fighter. So I’m obviously disappointed that he has chosen to take this stance.

Ken Shamrock: Fighters Should Take Notes

By: Kelvin Hunt

When you mention the name Ken Shamrock it is typical for a lot of thoughts to flood your mind all at once.  It is possible one might think of Ken’s two fights in the very first UFC event way back in 1993, or his stint in professional wrestling.  Or you might recall 1994 when he fought twelve times in one year.  It’s possible to conjure up images of the electricity he and Tito Ortiz brought in their first encounter at UFC 40.  However, if you are a fan that is new to the MMA scene, all you probably know is that Ken Shamrock hasn’t won a fight in a very long time.

ShoXC from Table Mountain Casino Results & Play-by-Play

by:  Jack Bratcher

The ShoXC card that took place in Friant, California at the Table Mountain Casino, aired live tonight on Showtime. Here’s the official PRO MMA play-by-play and results. It was a really good show; EliteXC and Showtime have much to be proud of with tonight’s fights. Here’s how things went down:

Keith Berry vs. Ray Lizama
Berry works with Robert Drysdale on his Jiu Jitsu at Xtreme Couture in Vegas.
Rd.1 – A right hand by Lizama staggers Berry. Then Lizama lands another less powerful shot then another right hand on the chin. Berry recovers nicely. Overhand right lands by Berry. Berry connects again. Berry looking for the plum. Big right hand puts Lizama to the mat. Berry jumps on his back and sinks in the choke. Lizama peels it off and Berry lets go. Berry lets him up. Big flurry from Lizama. Lizama lands a few hard shots that knocks out Berry’s mouthpiece. Berry still coming forward swinging for the fences. Lizama still landing a few here and there. Bell sounds.
Ref tries to put the mouthpiece back in the wrong fighter’s mouth. LOL This is a very good, very exciting fight. Truthfully, I was not expecting this much action.

ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series Weigh In Results

by:  Cory Brady

All fighters on tonight’s ShoXC card live on Showtime have been weighed in and are ready for battle. The main event of tonight’s card features a rematch from a previous ShoXC fight between Jared Hamman and Poai Suganuma . The bout ended somewhat controversially and had many asking for a rematch. In their first fight Suganuma landed a hard overhand right just seconds into the bout, which he followed with a devastating flying knee that left Hamman crumpled on the canvas. The referee stepped in quickly only to have Hamman jump to his feet protesting what seemed like a questionable stoppage. This fight should bring some closure between the potential stars and answer some questions as to which man just may be poised for the limelight.

PRO MMA was able to catch up with Diabate recently to talk with him about his upcoming fight and what the future hold for The Snake.

PRO MMA: So you’re fighting this Friday night live on Showtime’s ShoXC series. What do you know about your opponent, Jamie Fletcher, and how do you feel you guys match up?
Cyrille: I’ve seen a couple of his fights. He’s a decent kickboxer and he’s got some grappling as well. I think I’m more experienced than him in kickboxing and grappling so I think that’s going to make the difference.

Keith Berry is a name people will soon be talking about in the masses. At only twenty years old, the sky is the limit for this champion on the rise. We were able to catch up with Keith “KO Kid” Berry  to discuss his upcoming fight on Showtime’s ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series among other things.

PRO MMA:  You were one of the youngest fighters ever to win a KOTC title when you defeated Sean Loeffler. When you first started training could you have imagined being a champion at such a young age?
KEITH: No, actually when I first started training I just wanted to get into it and I started really, really liking it So after that I had my first fight when I was eighteen and from then on I’ve just fought and trained as much as I can. So yeah, I’m lucky. I got a title shot because somebody fell out and I ended up winning and I won again and again. So yeah, it’s good.
