“Strikeforce Challenger Series” set for Friday night on Showtime

Tomorrow night Sept. 25, live on Showtime, “Strikeforce Challengers: Cummings vs. Kennedy” will take over the SpiritBank Event Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The popular MMA series showcases rising young MMA talent, as well as established veterans of the sport.

As always, PROMMA.INFO will be providing live play-by-play commentary of all the action. The main event features the fan-favorite, and rapidly rising army ranger, Tim Kennedy facing the undefeated Zak Cummings. Kennedy’s most recent bout was a submission victory (verbal tap) of Nick “The Goat” Thompson at “Strikeforce Challengers” in Seattle.

A mixed martial arts (MMA) fight that area fans have been clamoring for will finally transpire on Friday, Sept. 25, when promising, unbeaten local favorites Thomas Longacre and Travis “The Dark Knight” Calanoc clash in one of the top fights on the Strikeforce Challengers card at SpiritBank Event Center in Tulsa, Okla. (SHOWTIME, 11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

Longacre and Calanoc, both 4-0, are no strangers to each other. They may not be the best of friends, but the talented prospects have trained at the same gym and known each other for years.

Two-time Olympian Daniel Cormier to make Strikeforce debut at Challengers in Tulsa, Okla. on Friday, Sept. 25

Daniel Cormier will face the ever tough TBA on Sept. 25.

NEW YORK (September 9, 2009) – Two-time United States Olympic wrestling team member and former NCAA Division I national championship runner up Daniel Cormier will make his mixed martial arts (MMA) debut at the STRIKEFORCE: Challengers event at Tulsa, Oklahoma’s SpiritBank Event Center on Friday, September 25.

Cormier (0-0) will face an opponent that has yet to be determined on the live SHOWTIME televised portion of the first-ever STRIKEFORCE card in the state of Oklahoma.

“I think it’s an honor to be fighting for one of the top organizations in the world,” said Cormier, who celebrated his 30th birthday on March 20.

NEW YORK (August 31, 2009) – Budding superstar and two-time All-American wrestler at the University of Missouri, Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley (5-0) of St. Louis, will face his sternest test to date when he meets former Tito Ortiz protégé, Zach “The Lisbon Outlaw” Light (4-8) of Huntington Beach, Calif., in a welterweight (170 pounds) fight at the STRIKEFORCE Challengers event in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Friday, Sept. 25.

The three-round, 5-minute mixed martial arts (MMA) encounter at SpiritBank Event Center will be one of the five fights televised live on SHOWTIME.

NEW YORK (August 7, 2009)—American military hero and rising mixed martial arts (MMA) star Tim Kennedy (10-2) will return to the cage to battle power-punching Brazilian and middleweight (185 pounds) rival Evangelista Cyborg (16-13) in the main event of a STRIKEFORCE Challengers card from Tulsa, Oklahoma’s SpiritBank Event Center on Friday, September 25, live on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

Tickets for the event, priced from $25, go on sale Monday, August 10, at 10 a.m. CT and will be available for purchase at the SpiritBank Event Center box office, all Ticketmaster locations (800-745-3000), Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com), and Strikeforce’s official website (www.strikeforce.com).
