UFC 97: REDEMPTION – PRO MMA staff picks

Once again the PRO MMA (promma.info) elders make their predictions. The event is UFC 97: REDEMPTION going down this Saturday night, April 18th in Montreal, Canada. The headliner is a UFC Middleweight Title fight between Champion Anderson Silva and Thales Leites.

Take a look at our predictions, see if you agree or disagree, and let us know why. Submit your picks as well.

Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites
Denny Hodge: I don’t think Leites is going to be successful at getting the champ to the ground, to show us his world class ground game. Silva by TKO in Round 2.
Jeff Howard: Silva over Leites-I think Leites has a chance, if he can get Silva down. With that said, Leites’ chin is like glass and he will get crushed trying to take Anderson down.
Eddie Constantine: Silva by TKO RD2 – Silva should be able to overpower Leites, wearing him out as Thales attempts to take Anderson down tiring him out in the process.
Jack Bratcher: Silva wins in round one via (T)KO (strikes) because he can.

UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 card finalized

The UFC has announced their full lineup for the December 27th event, dubbed “The Ultimate 2008.” This card is stacked from top to bottom, with two titles on the line and many other explosive matchups.

Rampage Jackson faces Wanderlei Silva in what promises to be an MMA fan’s dream fight. As many may remember, Silva won the first two times these gladiators faced off; both times in the Pride Fighting Championships and both times in impressive knockout fashion.

Wanderlei would like to put together a win streak and build upon his last victory, while Rampage looks to avenge his two previous losses to Silva, and hopefully get back in line for a shot at the UFC LHW Title. As most know, there is genuinely bad blood between these two so look for sparks to fly.

The crowd at Philips arena was electric. There is no doubt, having been there myself, that Chuck Liddell is still the biggest draw in MMA. Everytime that the multiple big screens in the arena flashed an image of “The Iceman”, the crowd erupted. Leading up to the main event, you could see the excitement build as near the Octagon, celebrities like Randy Couture, Big Boi from Outkast, The Tapout crew, “Rampage” Jackson and others mingled with the crowd, with camera flashes going off like a field full of fireflies. As the lights dimmed, the crowd exploded anticipating the entrance of Chuck and Rashad. Rashad came out first looking confident and bouncing all over the Octagon while awaiting Chuck’s long stroll down the hallway and out into the crowd as he made his way to do battle for a likely shot at LHW champion Forrest Griffin. Rashad appeared really loose, even dancing to Chuck’s entrance music.
