WEC 39: BROWN vs GARCIA takes place this Sunday, March 1 – preview

WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown (20-4) will make his first title defense against number one contender Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia (12-3) this Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Bank Atlantic Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Brown defeated WEC ‘poster boy’ Urijah Faber (22-2) at WEC 36 in November, 2008 to win the title. It was Faber’s first loss in thirteen fights. Prior to that, Brown defeated Jeff Curran (29-10-1) and is on an eight fight win-streak.

This will be the WEC’s first foray into Texas and Leonard Garcia, who hails from Plainview, Texas, will most certainly have a large number of fans supporting him at the event. Garcia is a UFC transplant and has had two straight wins in the WEC, his most recent being a first round TKO over Jens Pulver at WEC 36 back in November 2008. Fans are not going to want to blink when Brown and Garcia match up this Sunday.

PRO MMA Exclusive: a chat with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone

by: Denny “The Mad One” Hodge

On Wednesday Sept.10, 2008 the WEC will be holding an event at the Seminole Hotel & Casino in Florida which air live on the VERSUS network. The card is headlined by featherweight champion Urijah Faber defending his title against Mike Brown. However, there is another fight on the card which could very well steal the show and that is when “Razor” Rob McCullough gets into the cage with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Many people will remember Cerrone from his appearance on the TAPOUT reality show that airs on VERSUS. The episode featured Cerrone in a fight against Anthony Njokuani where he won via triangle choke in the first round. The very interesting paradox is the fact that quick submission finishes have been a recurring theme in the career of Cowboy who is actually more known for his muay thai and kickboxing skills.

PRO MMA Exclusive: Razor Rob McCullough

by:  Jack Bratcher

In February of this year, “Razor” Rob McCullough lost his WEC lightweight title to Jamie Varner in an upset.  The odds were stacked against Varner but he was able to pull out the win and take home the title.   Four months later “Razor Rob” stepped back into the cage and got back on the right track with a win over Kenneth Alexander at WEC 34.

“Razor Rob” wants that title back.  As far as he’s concerned, the loss to Varner was a fluke that never should have happened.  On September 10, Rob will face one of his toughest fights to date and it will be the deciding factor if he gets an immediate title shot or has to climb back up the ladder.  PRO MMA got the opportunity to chat with Rob and he explained just what this fight means to him and what kind of fireworks we can expect to see.

Rob also lets us in on some personal details about himself you may not have known such as who he would most like to fight and what is one of his favorite books.  The answers might surprise you.
