MMA’s top fighter starts the day for the world’s top businessmen (with video)

In what could possibly be one of the most ingenious marketing strategies in the history of MMA, Russian Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko—who will fight top-ranked heavyweight Andre Arlovski this Saturday, Jan. 24th, in the main event of Affliction M-1 “Day of Reckoning” at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and live on Pay-Per-View, were in New York Tuesday morning to take part in the Opening Bell Honors at NASDAQ in anticipation of his heavyweight MMA showdown.

The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. is the world’s largest exchange company. NASDAQ OMX offers capital raising solutions to companies around the globe and is number one in worldwide listings with over 3,900 companies representing $5.5 trillion in total market value.

Make no mistake, it was Donald Trump’s involvement that was able to put Fedor and Affliction in front of the world’s top business leaders on Tuesday morning. Michael Cohen, Executive Vice President and Special Counsel to Donald J. Trump confirmed with PRO MMA (http://promma.info) today, “Who else other than Donald Trump could pull something like this off?”

MMA legislation in New York hits a speed bump

Could this man kill MMA in New York?

There is trouble in New York. For fans of the greatest sport in the world, mixed martial arts, each year seems to be getting better. New states open the flood gates to allow sanctioned MMA fights and young people everywhere have a new sport they can participate in and make a career out of if they choose.

Just when MMA appears poised to take over the world, a speed bump in New York could slow down the progress. The New York State Assembly’s Tourism, Arts, and Sports Development Committee held session on Tuesday and among several pieces of legislature up for vote is Bill 1-11458-A, designed to regulate the sport of MMA in New York state.

The bill was not on the committee’s agenda this week but could be voted on as early as next week. Assemblyman Bob Reilly, a Democratic member of the committee who represents the 109th district of New York, opposes the legislation and his sentiments seem to be gaining some traction.

Viacom claims it has been trying to negotiate a “fair” renewal of its prized cable channels for months and months, but reputedly Time Warner Cable has been unresponsive and “unreasonable” so talks have stalled. The nation’s 2nd largest cable system operator, in turn, claims Viacom is asking for “exorbitant” increases in carriage fees which would have to be passed along to the customer. So now this fight between the two Big Media giants will hurt cable viewers.

Historic MMA Rivalries, part 5: Politicians vs MMA

Sen. John McCain

Mixed martial arts has and continues to see countless rivalries make their mark in the sport’s history books. While MMA’s origins can be traced across the corners of the globe, one rivalry nearly eradicated the sport from the United States.

Politicians rallied against the sport since the early days of its inception back in the 1990’s. The most recognized to do so would be Senator John McCain.

McCain’s infamous 1996 “human cock fighting” analogy has never faded away in the minds of fans and pundits and neither has his lengthy history with the sport. However, McCain’s interest had been piqued by the protests of another politician.

Ten-Thousand Fighter March

by: Jack Bratcher

On the eve of Bruce Lee’s birthday, the Committee to Legalize Mixed Martial Arts in New York State (CLMMANYS) will be holding a March in Albany, New York on Wednesday, November 26 calling for the legalization of Mixed Martial Arts.
